Q: Hi Peter & 5i: Just a comment regarding Andrew’s question (12/3/13) about switching between VUS and VUN and the possibility of not triggering a capital gain. I agree with you that his contemplated switch would crystallize a taxable gain, if executed, but I think he may have had something else in mind when mentioning what he had heard about. I think in some cases mutual fund companies are able to allow investor’s holdings to be switched between their various funds “in house,” without creating a taxable transaction for the investor. That may have been the idea. As you point out though, it doesn’t work with ETFs, even if the ETFs are both products of the same investment company.

Q: Hi Peter,
Can you comment on the Jim Chanos short and the related report he wrote on CGI?
Is there any merit to his points?
At what level would you say there is strong value?
Thanks in advance,

Q: Hi guys. Any comment on the BMO earnings? Are any other new bmo earnings estimates published? I see CIBC has a new Bank of Montreal report this morning with 2014 eps estimate of $6.27 and 2015 estimate of $6.75. On a $69.95 share price that gives us p/e of 11.15 for 2014 and 10.36 for 2015.
I know, of course, these earnings estimates can always be adjusted, but all things equal the valuation doesn't look too bad sub $70 in my opinion. What are your thoughts? Thanks, as always.

Q: I'm eyeing MX thinking of taking a position. I understand it's a leader in the space do you know how much market share it has? You mentioned it's cheap, google shows it at 94x earnings, what valuation are you showing? What type of growth do you think is achievable for them on a go forward basis and for how long? What drives methanol prices and what are the risks with MX?
Thanks,
Rob
Thanks,
Rob
Q: is the action on hgc just normal market moves thanks
Q: Hi There,
I wanted to hear your thoughts on the ETF - FIE. It seems to be a nice mix of financials along with a good dividend. How secure do you see it or what letter grade does it deserve. I wonder that if it is so good how come the ETF seems to be so small in size. Thanks

Q: Comment on the acr.un questions. The reason for them today might be BNN
JF Tardiff was on headline last night on Howard Green's show and mentioned that this was the largest position in his fund--sees both growth and safe distribution.
On another unrelated matter.
In Edit Profile section there is no way to change your email address which I can find--how do I do it?

Q: Hi, just curious if you've heard anything about or follow Patent Properties (PPRO); Jay Walker the Priceline founder is behind the company and it seems he has his eyes focused on creating a patent licencing system to launch in the second half of 2014. The company is also earning revenues off of their existing patents (from licencing, settlements, and litigation). I understand this isn't a forum for US listed companies but any input would be appreciated. Thanks,
Q: I've held BEP.UN since 2009 when it was Great Lakes Power. It has been a near double since purchase at $15 and the dividends have been excellent too, but I see in your response to an earlier question that you feel it is a purchase for income only, not gains; do you not feel it has a potential to near double once again over a number of years, even, say ten years, which would still be a first class return for a, hopefully, low risk equity? Thanks, J.
Q: IPL and Enbridge have showed a steady decline in share price since mid-october ?
Q: Enbridge Inc. 4.40% 5.25 - Year Rate Reset Preferred Share
Short Description: Treasury Offering of Cumulative Redeemable Preferred Shares, Series 7
Price: $25.00 CDN per share.
This is a new issue just announced yesterday.
Preferred shares have not done well of late but given the stability of this company would these shares be a good investment at this time?

Q: What's your view on Chartwell Senior?
Q: Can you give any advice on Agellan Commercial Real Estate Investment Trust, I am considering using it on as a play on the US recovery, Also would like some of my money in US assets. Is the dividend sustainable.
Q: What is your opinion of Agellan Commercial Reit. Is a buy at these levels. Should all reits be avoided due to possible taper by the US fed. Thanks for your always insightful answers.
Q: Hello:
I am thinking about selling VUS and buying VUN to take advantage of the weakening CAD.
I have a capital gain on VUS of 15000. If I buy VUN immediately will I have to pay capital gains tax on the sale of VUS? I have heard that if you are selling a fund to immediately buy a similar fund you don't get hit with the capital gains tax.
Thanks for the awesome service

Q: Seems like a good time to be looking for up and comers having made good money from some of your picks this past year (AVO, BAD, CSU, ESL, MCR to name a few... Thank-you for those!), so I will ask thoughts on another VERY speculative stock - PHO (Photon Control). Again, looking for anything you can provide, especially inside ownership info if available. - Cheers.
Q: Looking for any additional thoughts other than VERY speculative that you might be able to provide on PRY (PyroGenesis), especially with regards to stock ownership. The functional technology looks promising. - Cheers.
