Q: Hi, Wondering about your recomendations pertaining to the delisting of PLB. As I understand, PLB holdings will be transferred to a combination of END and GUD shares. Do you have
a preference between the two or are there others in the sector that you prefer? Thanks, Lavern

Q: re: California Drought

California is the Nations largest agricultural producer. It is reported the drought they are experiencing may result in up to 25% of irrigated fields and orchids in the country going unplanted resulting in a $5 BB hit in lost revenue. Can you speak towards what sector you see this effecting in a negative as well as positive manner? (if any)

Q: Good morning Peter. Bought in osisko (osk) when G made its offer. Having trouble seeing if the run up yesterday was the russia effect or the court resolution effect and what the agreement between G and OSK yesterday means for the Goldcorp offer. Is OSK buying time, do they have another bid in the works and is yesterdays run-up big enough to sell my shares?

Q: In reference to your remarks to the question about Lundin Mining (LUN) asked by Bill on Feb 25, 2014:
-When did management of Lundin say they may initiate a dividend once the Eagle Mine is in production?

I hold LUN and sell Call options against my shares for a decent income. If possible I would like to hear or read for myself the context in which a dividend was mentioned.

I too have thought the company may pay a dividend ever since they were unable to sell the company.

Q: Enerplus' last quarter seemed to be a mixture of good and bad. You indicated in a reply to another question on January 30 that Enerplus has good growth potential and a possibility of a dividend increase. Given that 55% of the capital spending will be in US funds would this not impact cash flow and eliminate the possibility of a dividend increase?
I have held this stock since 2009 and rode out the bad times and dividend cuts. I am above water due to the income I have received and I am wondering if now would be a good time to exit my position. What would be a good replacement at this time?

Q: With Russia invading Ukraine, my belief is that money will be leaving Europe shortly and heading to safer markets. Like the US and or Canada. I believe the US dollar will benefit and was wondering if you agree and how would a private investor play the rise in the dollar....an ETF, mutual fund or bundle of US stocks? Thx in advance

Q: Hi Peter and 5i: I have been reading Ben Graham's “The Intelligent Investor,” on your recommendation among others. Thank you for that. It is a wonderfully provocative read. It has me considering the increasingly defensive positioning one might come to in the later stages of a bull market through balancing and rebalancing the fixed-income and equity components of one’s portfolio. I am considering capital preservation strategies including diversification between components of conventional bonds, cash & short term income vehicles on the fixed income side of things, and (ironically?) gold on the equities side. But I am also wondering about the inclusion of non-leveraged short or “inverse” ETFs (MYY, HIU and the like) specifically to hedge the risk of the long equity positions I might be inclined to hold or accumulate throughout a market downturn, and also to provide the possibility of some positive equity-based returns in a declining equity environment. I wonder though about how reliable they will be in delivering the suggested returns, especially in what may be perceived as “crisis conditions” in the markets. Have they been tested over sufficient time and sufficiently variable market conditions to warrant confidence for capital preservation purposes? They seem to be investments in derivative instruments which are likely not well understood by many investors (me included!). That description reminds me of the “black box” ABCP investments that caused a significant crisis of confidence prior to the 2008 market meltdown. I also wonder about the dynamics of a derivative products market which becomes increasingly larger than the supposedly underlying repositories of value (the equities themselves). Should one be concerned that the next major market crisis may result from a loss of confidence and unravelling of the same derivative products that people may be depending on to protect them from a bear market? Am I completely off base or would you suggest any parameters for restricting one’s approach to investing in specific kinds of “non-leveraged” inverse ETFs or ETFs in general? Thanks for any thoughts! (Please feel free not to post this if you think it is unsuitable.)
