With the recent strong performance of oil & gas sector stocks, do you feel there are now fair or overvalued and to be avoided until a correction takes place or was this move an overdue correction bringing the Canadian energy sector back in line to where they should have been trading?

With the recent pullback in BX (Blackstone Group) do you think this is a good entry point for a long term hold. I am looking at getting some dividend yield (I realize this could be cut at anytime) and some growth. Also as a US holding would the dividends/capital gains etc. escape the typical withholding amounts, or does the structure of BX differ from a typical US company.

Q: I have some shares in Badger Daylight (BAD) for the last couple of weeks the stock has been going down from 70 cents to $1.30 per day. I cannot find any reason for this decline can you please investigate and find out why this happening. When companies are doing well they put out lots of info but when they are declining they fail to give you any info why. Thank You. Bob

Q: Badger Daylighting (BAD-T) has been steadily declining since the beginning of April. Can you offer reason(s) and should I sell half position now in order to lock in some gains. My average cost is $31.67 and today stock dropped another $1.20 to $36.69. Or just continue to hold all my shares. Thank you

Q: STN - Stantec

5i April 11 comment mentioned "trading a bit unusual" on "relatively low volume.

Today STN dropped down to it's lowest point of the year again on very low volume and during a period when markets in general are fairly positive.

It's been a steady performer since mid 2012. Anything new that could account for the weakness thus far this year?

1) Regarding Alimentaion Couche Tard, Moneysense magazine rates it as a value stock and good growth co. The PE for both A and B versions are about 6.5. But when I listen to experts at Stockchase, they all talk about how expensive it is. I'm confused.

Q: I am looking to add a REIT to my portfolio and have generally seen positive commentary from 5i on HR.UN. I like the yield and the 3% DRIP incentive however I'm always looking a little upside in the share price. Given this, what is your current opinion? Should I be looking at other REITs?

Q: I received a mailout of a class action lawsuit form for Swisher (swi). I remember a past question being asked about participating in these things for another company. I unfortunately still hold the shares. Would it hurt to be part of it, mail it out, and see what comes out after all the expenses are paid out? Are there taxes involved in these? A mail out cheque? Have you ever been part of these situations before and what has come out of it? Good? Bad? If this company is bleeding cash still, is it even possible they can settle? Thx.

Q: Good Afternoon 5i,

I have about 40% of my portfolio at this moment in cash. This is because of the season that I usually sell about 50% of my portfolio and re-enter in the market in September and October. Usually I alwau=ys kept this amount in cash over the summer. This time I would like to put it in a etf where I would earn some interest and not at risk of losing any of my principal amount. Would you have an etf to suggest to me?

I read your report and thank for that.... one comment which stood out for me was;

"We think AYA will eventually have to start ‘playing nice’ with the markets and release guidance at year-end to avoid this sort of decline."

Can you please provide additional explanation for this comment? Does this infer there is information management is not comfortable revealing? Or am I reading far too much into this .

Q: Further to Steve's question and your response about when the dividend is paid to a shareholder, and particularly with reference to your comment “The easiest way to look at it is to only consider the ex dividend date. For Teck, this is June 12. If you have bought the stock prior to this date on the market, you will get the dividend. If you buy it after this date, you will not get the dividend on July 2. If you buy on June 11 and sell on June 12 you will still get the dividend.”
In my Direct Investing account, if I buy shares on the open market on a given day, they don’t actually appear on my ledger until about 3 days afterwards. Does this time lag have to be taken into account with reference to receiving the dividend? In your quoted example, if I bought the shares on June 11, I wouldn’t see them in my account until about June 14 or later. Would I therefore need to buy the shares on June 8 to make sure they were in my account prior to the ex-dividend date?
