Q: Hello,

Peter touched on Pinetree Capital in response to a BNN Market Call question yesterday I believe. Peter mentioned a management change, is there a source with more details on this change? I have looked at PNP in the past but stayed far away as it holds some companies I short, Sphere 3D and Overland Storage (if I was smart I would have shorted PNP). I thought response yesterday of holding PNP as a play on recovery in juniors warrants looking into further and watching how PNP plays out going forward.

Q: Peter and Team,

Was shown on BNN today. It is on why Cineplex is a short. Agilith has been short and touting their short call (and getting gashed, by the way) for some time. I've owned the stock for a number of years now and like it and still like it but I am curious if you have any thoughts around their short thesis on Cineplex and their claim that the dividend isn't covered by cashflow.

Q: I own some ADW.A stock and have been considering adding to my position. From comments by one analyst, I understand that the value of some assets (e.g. land holdings) may not be reflected in the stock price. I value your opinion.

Q: Sgy has really come down since Nov. They had a fairly large hedge to price of oil --about 40% at $80 to $90. Are these hedges actually enforced or do they renegociate new prices which are not revealed. It seems hard to believe the share price of many stocks IF the hedge price is really used? Could you find out the hedge price used for stocks?

Q: I see that CF is handling the IT financing. Given IT is trading over 10% above the $15 bot deal price, CF should enjoy a nice win. My question is whether that win is enough to move the needle for their Q4 earnings. Is the stock a buy given today's weakness?

Q: Recently read that a special dividend will be given to owners of shares as of Feb 11. I do not own this stock at present but would love this this $5. gift. What will happen if this stock is purchased at current price of $14. Will the stock go down to accommodate this div.

Q: With the CAD dollar moving lower, is it wise to switch out of a current position in VUS (the hedged version) and into the VUN (unhedged). Any other considerations, other than the capital gain that will happen on the sale of VUS. This is held within a taxable investment account. Thx.

Q: With John O'Connell from Davis Rea joining Elkwater's Board at their annual meeting on Feb. 19, and bringing 70 million shares, insiders will own 25% of the stock according to the recently mailed circular. They are consolidating the shares and changing the name to Striker Exploration, for some reason.
The stock has been under pressure - small oil play in a lousy market - but I am wondering if sellers are anticipating a financing and selling out to participate and obtain warrants.
The Board is very strong and experienced which gives confidence to shareholders.
My question is do you see any value here for a 3 year time horizon and is there a large short position?

Q: The charts of REITS (e.g., XRE) and MICS (mortgage investment corporations), for example Firm Capital FC, roughly parallel each other over the years. But in the last few weeks they've gone in opposite directions. FC is way down, and XRE is way up. Other MICS are similarly down. Can you see any reason for the divergence? Could it be a buying opportunity for a stock like FC, if this divergence tends to correct itself somewhat? Thank you.

Q: Hi Peter,

Can you give me your opinion on their latest results? The results appear lackluster considering pulp prices were strong for the qtr, oil prices were down, Cdn Dollar weak....my expectations were higher.

Would you consider this a long term hold or is it time to sell.

Q: Hi Peter and Team,

I am in an MBA stock picking contest, which runs from Feb 2nd until the end of March. We are all given '100k' to 'invest' in US companies.

Are there any potential home runs (short or long) that you can think of (keeping in mind that it's just for fun)? Most players are trying to time the market with triple leverage funds, but I thought I'd check in to see if you have any other ideas that might be interesting.

Q: In 2010 Starbucks decided to sharply focus on return on invested capital (ROIC) as a metric of success as opposed to solely earnings + revenue growth. Lease portfolios were growing faster than revenue and profits - costs were going up and performance was sub-optimal even though revenues were going up. Deploying increasing levels of capital into high-growth, high-return areas has been a winning formula for them - as well as closing under performing stores. Where can one find a list of companies with high ROIC's?
