Q: The Financial Post recently ran a complimentary piece on DHX and their latest activities:

It's good to know they're not standing still in terms of dealmaking; perhaps it's the time of year but the market doesn't seem to be paying attention and we'll have to wait for analysts to come back from vacation for the stock to move or do you think the stalled equity raise is creating an overhang?

Your Sept. report states rating maintained at B implying there is an earlier report but I show this as the only one. What am I missing? Thanks, J.

Q: I no longer have a position in Amaya as of now; but today's news makes it an interesting consideration. From the highs of $35 it is now trading at $17. The business seems to be growing nicely but there will be an overhang as well; maybe even for a couple of years. I was wondering if it is prudent to step in right now, wait until the market settles down January or wait to see what the next quarter results look like.

Q: Earlier today Michel asked how much weight he should give to analysts' opinions. You replied that studies have shown that predictions are not very accurate. Today's Market watch (WSJ) wrote:

According to data provided by Thomson Reuters and FactSet, the 10 stocks that Wall Street analysts rated most highly last January collectively have lost 7% so far this year, even including dividends.

Meanwhile the 10 stocks those analysts rated worst have actually gained 3%, beating the S&P 500

Q: Hi,

In January, when the TFSA limit is increased, I will be moving some of my non-registered stocks into my TFSA. My plan is to leave high dividend stocks like BNS and FTS in my non-registered and move growth stocks with no dividend or small dividends to the TFSA.

So what do I do with SIS and SYZ? They both have great dividends but I think would also have lots of growth. Would they be better in my TFSA or non-registered?

Q: Hello and Merry Christmas!

Heading in to 2016 I am concerned about the impact of fx on my US holdings (about 25% of my equity portfolio). I have held the listed stocks in US$ for well over a year. Most are down on the purchase price but overall I am up in Cdn$ on account of the fx. My concern is a reversal in fx essentially wiping out any future gains in the underlying price of stocks like JCI or EMR where the strong US$ is often cited as a negative. As I see it I can: a) Sell and re-invest in an etf like CUD or XQQ that is currency hedged; b) hold and find some way to hedge against gains in the Cdn$ myself (any ideas here?); or c)do nothing . Any suggestions?

Q: As we all know the materials sector including oil, gold, non precious metals, fertilizer etc has been devastated over the past few years. I have always held some large cap names in all of these such as Teck, Agrium, Potash, Goldcorp, SU, Chevron,WCP,VET, IMO, Exxon -Mobile, even XEG, in reasonable weights for portfolio diversification purposes. Now I am am 59 and on the cusp of retirement. My sole retirement income will be dividends from my portfolio and CPP. Do you think it in the future it would be wise to avoid the materials sector altogether at this stage in my investing career. My current plan is to just hold on to my current holdings as their value has dropped so much that selling them will not raise all that much cash and I believe if I am patient there will be a rebound in materials and the respective stock prices. Maybe I can get out of these positions when they rally again in a few years, avoiding them altogether for the rest of my retirement, and continue to collect my dividends from the more stable dividend growers in my diversified portfolio. Unless of course these stocks fall out of favour next.

Q: The price of this stock is near a 52 week low. What is your take on this company at present, and is this a buying opportunity?
