Q: Hi 5i,
I am in the process of completing our portfolio re-balancing after our 5i review. By the end of the process, I will have about 2.5 % cash left to deploy in our Non-registered investment account (i.e.: fully taxable). I was thinking of putting 1.25 % in each of any 2 of the following - in order of (my) preference:
1. DHX.B
2. HCG
3. CSH.UN
4. XTC
5. SJ
6. CXI
I believe we will be well diversified and well balanced for the most part and so this money will only have the constraints around taxation as an issue. So, given the foregoing, how would you rank these and are there any other suggestions you might make??
Thanks for everything - you folks are awesome!!!
Cheers,
Mike

Q: I would like to add some European exposure to my US dollar portfolio. Would you suggest investing in one or two of the stronger economies such as England (EWU) or Germany (EWG) or would it be better to invest in a broader ETF such as the 10 country EZU? Are there any other ETFs that might be preferable to these large cap ones?
Q: Hello Team
What is your current view on Counsel Corp and their latest results? How would they fare in a rising interest rate environment ? Do they have any positive or negative U.S. exposure?
Thank You for your good advice

Q: What are your thoughts on ABM with the recent release of the PEA? The stock jumped almost 25 % Friday on the news. I have averaged down over the past few months but am debating whether to add further to my position. Thx.
Q: Hi Peter;
I am starting my RRIF. The value of my RRSP is $164,000 which is currently in cash. My first withdrawal is on the 25 Dec 2016. I have to take out $4,000 per year which is based on my wife's age. This has been approved by BMO.
My plan is to keep $12,000 in cash to be used for the withdrawal of the initial three years.
I want to put the remaining $152,000 into Sentry Diversified Income Fund or Sentry Canadian Income Fund. I know the MER is high but they delivered over the longterm.
Out of the two funds which would you choose and can you recommend any other funds that would give me a steady income stream with some capital gains.
I am no longer comfortable with picking individual stocks and ETFs.
Thanks

Q: Hi Peter,
I have a question about Snipp, the stock had a big run up for the last 2-3 weeks. I think it is a IT company. I would like your take on the stock and is it worth chasing. In addition, do you see a double in the next 12-24 months. Thank you in advance.

Q: Still positive on AVL? I have a small position.
Thanks for the service.

Q: I'm going to be 70 yrs old this year and promised myself to get more conservative by switching out of stocks and going to efts, We have no debt and our pensions cover our living expenses. Our portfolio is 60% tfsa and 40% taxable account no rrsps all cashed out. We will be using some of our money each year at least 5-10% for trips and or home maintenance. Presently have 40% of tfsa split between bmo zlb & zlu low volatility but not sure if this the right way to go. I'm looking at going vanguard worldwide wide broad based except Canada then Canada but at what percent would be best and what etf for tfsa and taxable regular investing acct. Do not want any fixed income etfs because we always seem to have enough cash on hand for emergency. Mainly want to be well diversified.
thanks
thanks
Q: Hi Peter,
Just looking for your opinion (any change) on Student Transport (STB) after the last quarter report.
I wish to point out something from their conference call that I feel a lot of investors miss: The Company leased vehicles in 2008/9 and has been writing off the lease payments as expenses from then until now. Their normal policy is to lease for 6 years. This quarter they were able to purchase these vehicles at the end of their leases for $1 million. They had a market value of $3.2 million dollars and 6 to 8 years of remaining useful life with very little charges to the next couple of years operating statement. This is a large unrecorded asset and has been overstating costs in operating statement which will reverse in the future.
I obviously like STB and am a current shareholder. I value your opinion.
Thanks
John

Q: MY RRSP is full of large cap, dividend paying Cdn. equities so my TFSA is where I am a little more aggressive. I presently have SUMMIT REIT 2 as my only holding. I am looking for small cap, dividend paying stocks which offer income and growth to provide more balance to this account. Any ideas? Thanks
Q: Hi Peter and team,
I hold SGY and HWO as part of my O&G portfolio, you used to recommend these two for income. I am surprised with the lack of correlation with oil prices for HWO stock (is it due to small size?) and with unexpected behaviour for SGY stock today: the oil is up, Canaccord Genuity raised stock price target to C$4, yet the stock is down? Any explanations? Any thoughts on HWO and SGY perspectives and risk level? I have losses on both stocks but don't mind holding them if there is a light at the end of the tunnel :-)
Also, what do you think of CVE situation, is it a buy opportunity?

Q: I have recently transferred all my holdings from a Financial planning company to a self directed RRSP/LIF worth about $700,000. I joined 5I to get some thoughts on how to invest $350,000 in cash. The cash came after I sold all mutual fund holdings that existed in the former plan. Should I hold in cash for now as the market seems to be volatile & over-priced, should I purchase a basket of ETF's based on your sites recommendation or should I purchase individual stocks as per 5I's recommendations. I seem to be locked in fear of doing the wrong strategy but I know holding cash is not the answer. I really appreciate your advise and enjoy reading all the questions, thanks.
Q: I have a relatively small holding in PTA, but the price appears to be continuing a downward trend. What is your view on its future?
Q: I looked up previous questions and answers on CHW and the last was Jan. 22nd. Just wondering if you know of anything new that is causing the constant decline, or is it still mostly the US dollar component? Thank you!
Q: Hi Pete Could I have your comments on rei results I read an article in Van Sun were there was concern about the occupancy but was not reflected in the report as this has been a core holding of ours and has served me well .I am not opposed to changing if needed .
