Q: Hello Peter et al....What do you think about oil and gas companies...such as TBE, RPL, AFT.UN, SGL, TDG, WCP that bill themselves as: Sustainable Dividend Income with Moderate Growth Companies? Their yield varies between 4 and 8%. They look like the former income trusts except they seem to be extracting the product from lands where the minerals rights are owned privately rather than by the Crown. I would appreciate your views on such firms. Are they worth further attention? Can they withstand a downturn in commodity prices?
Q: Hi Peter & 5i: The market appears to be punishing Argonaut (AR), for its most recently reported results, with new 52-week lows. The other gold companies that I view as potential holdings are all up substantially from their lows and gold is up over $100 an ounce from its bottom (though all have retreated some from their most recent peaks). I’m very light on golds and looking to start taking my weighting up with a basket of 4 or 5 holdings. What do you think of adding some AR at the current level? Thanks.
I am looking at putting 500 a month into a TFSA discount brokerage account. Do you have any suggestions? Should I invest 500 a month or wait til I have a couple thousand? And do you have any suggestions for good dividend/equity growers?
XTC (Exco Tech), at the 8.90ish level, would you consider this a buy? I have no auto exposure right now and wanted to increase my overall industrial exposure.
Q: Hello - brand new to your Site and already have found valuable information to complement my investment decisions.
I have found most stocks I have been looking for however I have a couple of airline related positions which don't show up when I enter their symbols. They are CHR (Chorus) and BBD.B (Bombardier). These are longer term holds (2-5 years). Your thoughts please
I have been looking at a long term investment in Google for some time and with it recent declines and reasonable valuation is this the time to jump in? I show 15 times earnings this morning.
Q: Trading/ Strategy Question: With the sizeable pullbacks today for CSU, AVO, ESL, HNL and BAD, would you see this as an opportunity to increase my position in any of these stocks, all of which are already owned - some at higher prices, others at lower prices. All are owned becuase of long term potential and are expected to be long term holds.
Q: Peter - ESL has been hammered lately, over 5% today. Any explanations on the background of the decline? Is this a good time to get in? I am looking at 3% to 5% position.
Q: When the market is hit by a pullback of momentum stocks, is it better to buy AVO or ENG, which was hit especially hard, or one of the ones that way only minimally affected?
Regarding BYD.DB, can you explain in some detail how this security will behave? Since it is trading well above its conversion price, my understanding is that its delta should be close to 100% of BYD.UN, but it will have 5.75% interest payments instead of the ~1.35% distribution? Does this not make it more attractive than holding BYD.UN? Can you also put into simple language the redemption features?

On and after December 31, 2016 but prior to the Maturity Date, the Debentures may be redeemed by the Fund, in whole or in part from time to time at the option of the Fund, at a price equal to the principal amount thereof plus accrued and unpaid interest up to but excluding the Redemption Date, on not more than 60 days' and not less than 30 days' prior written notice. Q: Hello Peter, you answered a question regarding 5 must buy/should have small cap Canadian stocks. The ones you suggested look good to me and I would like to put 3/4 of my portfolio on it. God hates a coward right! What are your thoughts?
