Q: Good day!
I am looking at ENF (Enbridge Income Fund) and/or AQN (Algonquin Power and Utilities)for a position or a split position (both?) I prefer ENF for the higher div and seemingly similar growth paths (or maybe a bit better?), but I do own PPL (a full position) and see the overlap with Enbridge for pipelines. Would appreciate advice as to which I should choose for (primarily)income, and also some downside dividend protection against market correction and also - for the complete wish list - a chance for reasonable growth.
If you wish, I would appreciate any alternative choice(s) in a reasonable dividend-paying utility.
Thanks!

Q: What is the signifigance of beta? I thought that numbers below 1.0 indicated a less volatile stock, but when I look at some charts I see stocks with betas below 1.0 going up and down like yo-yos.

Q: There have been a lot of announcements in the last couple of days for Petromanas Energy (V.PMI)including:
1. the test well results;
2. the resignation of two directors;
3. The sale of 46 million shares by the largest shareholder and the corresponding purchase of almost 16 million of those shares by insiders.

What is one to make of all of this and is it worthwhile holding my position?

Thanks
Robert

Q: Hi
I read your excellent answer to Dave this morning in which you say "The main drivers to equities are (1) earnings (2) interest rates and (3) money flows (people going to cash/shifting from bonds to stocks). If earnings are strong and growing, and interest rates are low (i.e right now), it is hard to predict a big fall in the market.
I want to buy additional shares in Royal Bank [RY] but I have been watching the price rise steadily since the summer and am severely conflicted. Do I just go ahead and buy now because of the 3 parameters you mention are in force, or do I wait for a hoped-for 5% or more market pullback?
The current payout ratio is 49% for RY and the yield only 3.81% so I would expect a dividend increase because of the rising stock price and falling yield, but with the payout ratio so high [normally in the 45% range I believe for banks] is this even likely?
Many thanks... Paul

If one places a market order, in what sequence are orders executed relative to limit orders and all other market orders? In the order that they were placed?
Thanks

Q: About a third the float of PLB and ENDP turned over yesterday; what to read into that? Also there's an article in this AM's Report on Business indicating the takeover is high risk for Endo because of the Irish tax dodge issue. Would selling half the PLB position now be a prudent move? Thanks, J.
