Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: my ACB is $56. CXR is not a big part of my portfolio and in my TFSA. I was going to buy more on the low 30's then the Blackrock news came out. the price has now come back to $36/$37. My planned purchase would bring my ACB down to $46 at the current price. Am I throwing good money after bad? If CXR is sold now does it get more than $65/share? Or less because of the debt load? If you were a potential buyer what would you pay? What is your advice? Thanks

Q: Greetings, Peter and Co.
I currently have 14.8% of my investments, excluding real estate and bullion, in the biotech/healthcare sector. I hold
Biosyent (RX) 0.5% (I have a considerable loss in RX.)
Concordia (CXR) – 1.5% (I expect CXR to be acquired by a larger company.)
Merus Labs (MSL) – 2.2%
Prometic (PLI) – 2.4%
Amgen (AMGN) – 3.1%
Knight (GUD) – 5.1%
I am considering liquidating my holdings in CXR, RX and perhaps MSL and using the proceeds to add to my PLI position and/or an alternative that you might recommend unless you think I am too overweight in this sector.
Thank you for your analysis and recommendations.
With appreciation
Ed

Q: Why would Concordia agree to enter into discussions with Blackrock (or others) if they have confidence in their ability to integrate recent acquisitions, roll out newly-acquired drugs across a larger geographic area, and generally execute on their business plans? Doesn't it suggest management see insurmountable issues ahead in one or more areas? Thank you for your comments.

Q: Concordia has been acting very poorly for quite some time, especially since their last earnings report. Is it still being associated too much with VRX or is there something else? (i.e management compensation) I do not want to exit my position as this seems so cheap based on forward earnings. I know they have a ton of debt but this should be managed based on their forecasts. Is this just a case of the market being short sighted?

Q: This might be a tough question but I am pretty sure you would have seen it before. I need strategic help. I can’t seem to sell a losing stock. I am paralyzed by the fear that by selling I lock in the loss. Or that at the current price it is actually the time to buy the stock.
Surprisingly even with this list of losers my portfolio is actually up. Much to the credit of 5i. So I don’t need to sell but can’t help thinking that the money could be put to better use. I am also pretty sure that there could be different advice for each stock. But anyway here is my list. What do you think? Sell or hold?
Please take as many question points as you feel is appropriate.
TMA -21%
GH -20%
GS -30%
HLF -33%
PM -25%
WEF -20%
AYA – 45%
CXR -34%
PHM – 79%

Q: I currently own a small position in Concordia, approximately 2% weighting and I am considering buying more based on the CEO comments today reinforcing the auditors report. Please give me your views of the company presently and your longer term prognosis. I know how leveraged the company is but do you believe they are a "Valeant" in the making ?

Q: BNN reported that Pacific Square removed from their report what they said about PriceWaterHouse Cooper. Also, CEO of Concordia discredited the report. Apparently, the short report can't be found anymore. Seems that easy money is being made writing short reports. Can't blame investors for selling after PHM, VRX, AYA, GXI only in 12 months and so many "good" stocks taking the elevator down.

Q: In your Mar 23 response, you indicated guidance was key...so I scanned their 2015 AR looking for guidance. I expected to find some 2016 goals and a CEO signature. Only found the Executive Summary...where the only guidance is they "expect" to de-lever by paying down some debt...& unsigned. No commitment or targets there. Your thoughts?
