Q: Good morning,

I would like to add some gold to my portfolio, about 15k in holdings. There have been some positive results from rio alto and b2 gold of late, but my stomach aches when thinking of reinvesting in them given the losses suffered when gold imploded last year. Could you comment on the two, recommend a good alternative or ETF for gold exposure as a hedge against market capitulation, and lend comment to gold in 2014.

Thanks as always,

Eric

Q: For resource exposure, I am concentrated only in oil & gas (likely because I live in Calgary). I have full positions in Cenovus, Suncor, and am overweight in Crescent Point. Since last fall, I have also purchased half positions in VET, WCP, TOU, Surge, and Bellatrix (based on 5i responses). I am looking to unload my Suncor, Cenovus, and Crescent Point positions in favour of adding full positions to the others. Does that sound like a reasonable plan to you and why are the analysts so bullish on CPG when I know that you are not enamoured with it?

Q: Good morning, Peter.
I can find no news that might explain the drop in Horizon North Logistics' share price. I tried to contact the company but the voice mailbox was full. My email remains unanswered. I am perplexed.
If there is no fundamental reason for the drop in share price, I would substantially increase my position. Can you shed any light on this peculiar situation?
With appreciation.
Ed

Q: This may not be within your scope, but I would appreciate your opinion on the general reputation (for delivery of results) and past performance of issuers of Flow-Through LP's. I.E. their NAV at the time of the Mutual Fund Rollover approx 2 years down the road. In checking the 'New Issues' available from TD/Waterhouse for instance the following are listed right now...
Brompton,CMP,Front Street,MRF,NCE,NORREP & Sprott.

I welcome your insight!

Thanks

Q: After years of consolidation, do you think Canadian Oil Sands is due for a revaluation by the investment community? Looking at their capex programme, their big expenditures are out of the way in 2015. With the past CEO stating that their objective is to pay out free cash flow to shareholders, I think COS could increase the current dividend from $1.40 to $2+ if synthetic oil prices stay $90+ and production volumes stabilize.

Looking forward to your views. Thank-you for efforts.

Q: I sold half my position in Exchange (EIF) last fall to claim a loss. It has gone down further, and I am now debating buying back the portion sold. It is held for income, and currently represents 1% of portfolio, and my purchase would bring it back to 2%. Do you think this is a reasonable idea, or should I just sit tight? Or even sell the remainder? Is the dividend safe, and do you have any concerns relating to the new debenture offering? Thank-you for your consideration.

Q: Hi - my TFSA of $32,000 is currently invested as following:

CDH - 50% (recently come alive again; still a believer :-)
Front Street Growth Fund - 7.68% (tough 2 years for Lamarche)
MEI - 25% (good long-term potential - liking it)
CASH - 17% (where to go?)

The goal of my TFSA is aggressive high growth. I like MCR; AVO; BYD.UN and DHX for the cash. Any comments and suggestions to potentially restructure the portfolio and deploy the cash to achieve diversified aggressive growth are appreciated. thx!
