Q: The plan of arrangement for Repsol to take over TLM has two options for Shareholders. 1)To receive the equivalent Cdn$ of $8US in cash. or 2) To receive $8US Cash. Based on these two options which one is best at this time considering the low Cdn$ relative to the US$. Of course any capital gain or loss would have to be taken in Cdn$

Q: As far as charts, I've always used http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/. I can clearly read the technical indicators I need, such as RSI, MACD, OBV, and the moving averages. I also like how I can compare stocks on the same graph.
Something I found startling is that when I compare a stock such as Constellation CSU or Stella-Jones SJ, or some others, with any good etf, e.g. CDZ, CSU totally blows an etf out of the water. You can't compare a great stock to a good etf. Makes me wonder why anyone is buying etfs when they can buy a basket of great stocks recommended by 5i.

Members who experienced the technical outage last Tuesday at TD Waterhouse (WebBroker) might be interested to know that I emailed td.waterhousecompliance@td.com and told them the delay in one of my trades cost me an estimated $156.00 as the stock fell during the day. The agent said there is no policy to reimburse clients under the circumstances, but he did, as a "courtesy", reimburse the commission and gave me a $100 cash credit. He said if the trading platform is down, the only recourse is to call in the trade. He acknowledged the wait times were very long.

I currently have 35 % in the following: BMO, BNS,CM,NA, RY,TD in the backs, SLF and GWO in insurance - all with significant gains, and HCG and CF in other financials with a moderate loss position.
Would you trim all positions or eliminate several companies?
Where should I rebalance into companies in your new growth portfolio?

Vereseen has issued another Preferred series E Reset for proceeds of 200 million.I own the A series which yielded 4.4% at the park value issue price of 25.00
Unlike a bond they will never be redeemed at 25.00 by the company, the shares are down by about 22% which sure seems steep to me,so what are my chances of the shares getting back to 25.00 so I can recover my original investment.
Are these reset Preferreds just being flogged by the underwriters for commissions.
Is there a good chance that Vereseen might default and I loose all my money.
Finally would you recommend taking the 20 percent hair cut and dumping my shares.

Q: I only have enough money to buy two of your companies in the growth portfolio. These are for very long term holds and higher risk. I want "buy and forget" two companies in my RRSP for 5 to 10 years plus, and I wonder if you favour any of them for a 5 bagger or more in that time frame. I would have leaned towards the smaller companies in the portfolio, but then I look at the rest of my portfolio and I note things like CSU have gone up for me more than five times and they weren't exactly tiny when I bought them! Q: I reduced my utility sector exposure to zero a few weeks ago due to the potential for rising interest rates. I know you don't favor reducing sector exposure to zero and given the potential delays in a Fed rate hike as highlighted by the minutes released today, I am considering scaling back into the sector. Would you favor Brookfield Infrastructure or Renewable Energy? Are there any other large infrastructure companies?

Q: I have held MTY since about $13.00 and the pace of its growth has slowed lately. Could you please comment on their 1st quarter results, (same store sales still not picking up) and perhaps help to convince me it is time to say thanks and move on. I am considering replacing it with 2 or 3 selections from the new growth portfolio that I don't already own. I currently own AVO, CXI,DRT,GXI,PHM,PUR,SCR from the new portfolio as well as AW.UN.
