I noticed you answered a Q on PLS with a knock on market exposure (amongst other things). What do you think of MLM which has the kind of exposure required for upside in US housing?
Q: I like Canexus corp, they share the risk and upside on their contracts with their customers and are also expanding their oil by rail shipping business.
Q: Hi Peter, I too read with great interest your Saturday morning comments in National post about ZEN, Zenyatta. I liked you comments on it but your last paragraph mentions "Still, it takes just one super stock to change your portfolio forever. We sincerely doubt it is going to be one of the ones mentioned above, but we’ll keep watching while looking for better possibilities". Can you please expand on this comment as I have 20% of my portfolio in ZEN and I am up over 400%. I have done a lot of research on this company along with the Vein graphite and the numbers I come up with are looking like another Aurelian.
Q: What are your thoughts about Brookfield renewable energy partners? Seems they had a big miss quarter, how can the hydrology and wind be that far off of expectation? Is it me or is this very expensive?
Q: Any comments on BTO.to at this price level? It doesn't make sense the sell off in gold with all the debt that global governments have and the policy to just print money. Any other gold stocks you would recommend with the latest sell off because I plan to buy gold stocks this week to take advantage of the sell off. I am thinking of buying OSK,AEM or G and sgn.v. Thanks for your guidance it is very helpful. Keep up the great work!
Q: Hi, I am a fairly new subscriber to 5i, found lots of worthwhile information. Sound investent already. Great advise about investing in companies that just intiated a dividend. Will 5i be sending this info out when it happpens, if not where could a retail invester find this info in a timely manner? Thanks in advance, Jim
Q: I know the rules about regular cash accounts, but is their also a rule in the TFSA, where if you sell a stock you can't buy it back for thirty days?
Q: AAB: Aberdeen International. One of this company's recent press releases indicates a value of .83 cents per share, but the company is trading at .33 cents. There were so many qualifiers regarding the calculation of the .83 cent value that I am confused. Is this "smoke and mirrors" on their part?
Would you consider buying in view of AAB's holdings and dividend payments of ~ 5.7% and a Globe and Mail 4 Star rating? Thanks.
Q: HEP or PME. If you were to buy one of these gold investments, which one would you choose? Both have high dividend yields, although PME is a bit higher. Any significant difference in the "safety" of the dividend.
This would be a long term hold. Does one of these have better upside potential?
Q: Hi, Peter.
I am afraid that I am becoming addicted to your 'Investments and Company Questions' as well as your column in the National Post. I read with great interest your Saturday morning comment that you sincerely doubt that Orbite Aluminae (ORT.TO) will be a big winner.
Would your opinion change if Orbite begins commercial production and distribution by mid 2013?
Thanks,
Ed
Q: Could I get your opinion on Trevali Mining. I am up a little but I hear that some old mines are not shutting down so the zinc market is going to be weak.
Q: Hello 5i,For tax loss selling I think you have to wait 30 calender days before repurchasing the same stock back.
My question is if you purchase the same stock back in a Rsp or the TFSA within the 30 days would this disallow the tax loss in your regular trading account. Also if you have the same stock in a TFSA or Rsp do you have to sell these stocks to capture a tax loss in your regular trading account. Thanks
