Q: Good Morning Peter and Team,
Could I please have your opinion of Ag Growth International
(AFN- T) ??? I like the agricultural sector and this company in particular. It has been taken to the woodshed recently, in large part due to the serious drought in many areas of the US.
Thank you, Dennis
I totally disagree with the opinions of one of the members that the focus should only be on company reports. I think the prime focus here should be to make ordinary people better overall investors. Company reports are definitely one source of that but it cannot be the only source. There are a lot or research outfits out there which usually give their ratings and targets on companies, but what differentiates 5i from others and what is drawing more investors towards 5i is the Q&A feedback process which is very unique. I agree that sometimes it might become overwhelming for you and your team to respond to so many questions, but as I have heard from one of your comments earlier, that you will restrict the number of members rather than impact the quality of your company. I think most of the members will agree with me that the Q&A is sometimes more valuable then the company ratings as it makes them avoid bad investment decisions and make good ones. Just my two cents.
Q: Your recent report on PKI mentions a dividend payout ratio of less than 60%. By my calculations you are using something other than Earnings in your formula. As a new member, could you please explain what you include/exclude in your payout calculation. Thank you.
Q: I am a new member, CSU is the only recent report. Are this years 5 additional A rated companies still a good investment? WIN , STN , BYD , BAD , CGX
Q: I'm sorry that you are asked so many questions about equities that are not in 5i's portfolio. I understand that you don't want to be rude and you have a lot of knowledge, but as the membership grows, this is going to consume all your time.
Perhaps if somebody asks about XXX Bank and mentions their great dividend, why not point them at 5i's recommendation of Aston Hill or Fiera Sceptre etc. If XXX Restaurant, simply point them to 5i's Boston Pizza and A&W have been good. Heavy Equipment, look at 5i's Badger. Etc. Etc.
General or specific strategy and investment questions are great and I love reading your suggestions.
I'd just like to see you folks not have to spend so much time on questions that are not related to your portfolio recommendations or investing in general.
This would free you up to have more time for research and finding those hidden gems.
Q: Hi Peter et al, I have had the same experiences as Claude (OCT 11) on being run ahead on trades. It is no longer a level trading floor, so to speak. Does it only happen on the venture exchange? Or does it happen on the main exchange as well? Thanks. Henry
Q: The recent announcement that Shopper's Drug Mart -SC- would be allowed by the government to expand services that could help offset the revenue lost through provincial curbs on generic drug prices was greeted favourably. However, if I understand correctly, the $7.50 per flu shot administered roughly covers costs and the province has not yet promised to pay for other services like renewing prescriptions. Could I have your thoughts on the company in light of these developments. Thanks
Q: hello Peter:
could I have your opinion on WPX Energy, and, if possible, what would be an equivalent (or higher in your estimation), pick in the Canadian energy group.
thanks
Paul
Any thoughts on DL? I have had it since it paid a dividend (some time ago). I can't figure out why they remain a public company, but wonder how long I should be patient for something to happen. I'm gun shy as I owned Arbour Memorial for over 10 years and sold it shortly before they went private. Thanks, Rick
Q: I`m looking to invest profits from a short-term trade into a long-term hold (5+ years) with decent dividend growth. I like IPL, PPL, and NPI. Is it safe to split my investment between these three names? Do you have a favourite?
Q: Hi Peter
I have held Barrick Gold ABX. forever and today I am still a dollar or two under water. It seems to trade a dollar or so above or below $40. Is there any hope that ABX will start moving up or should I sell and move on?
Thank you.
David
Q: Hi Peter
Have you upgraded your opinion of SPB? It gets mentioned on BNN as a turn around. Has a nice 6.75 dividend. Is this a stock you can buy and sleep at night.
Thanks David.
