Q: I sold my 5% position today in OTC and booked a tidy tax loss. My question is do I buy it back in 30 days or look for another tech holding. My remaining tech positions are GIB.A, AVO and AYA. I would want any replacement to provide steady growth to balance out AVO and AYA; suggestions please. Thank you.

Q: I'd like have some investments that pay a predictable distribution that I either hold forever or get to cash out at the same price I purchased at.
This looks interesting (4.9% and doesn't seem to be a reset-preferred), but I've been burned by preferreds before so I thought I'd ask what you think.

Q: Hi team,
You indicated that in the TFSA, there will be a 15% withholding tax on dividends. How does that play if it is a mutual fund (in U.S.$) held in the TFSA ? What are the pros and the cons of holding such a mutual fund in a TFSA ?
Thanks a million,
Jacques

Q: There is an increase in demand for seniors housing. Is VTR a good stock to own for someone who wants to invest in this sector in the US. Or can you suggest another stock. It appears that they have not cut their dividend even in the 2008 recession.
Thanks again

Q: As a new member, I'm trying to learn how to use your site. Presently BABA is of interest to me. How can I find what has been written about BABA in the past so that I am not repeating questions that have been ask previously? What is your current recommendation on BABA?
Q: With potential pressure on the CDN mortgage market would you advise the following trades. Sell AI.Db.A and FC.Db.A, convertible debentures form 16% of my portfolio the 2 mentioned 4%, and buy VCN. Would this really be just a circular trade?
Thanks again for your much valued input.

Q: Today in a response to Joanna regarding softness in the banks you stated "worry about the housing market in general". I would appreciate expansion on what you meant by that statement - what in the housing market would cause the banks to worry? Are you referring to housing markets generally or to markets in specific parts of the country?
Thank you.
Thank you.
Q: why do you think the banking sector is so soft?
Q: Hi,
After ATD's recent results, what do you think of the companies prospects for the rest of the year and beyond.

Q: Peter; Have you seen any news on SIA today re the increased volume and price bump? Thanks.Rod
Q: Hi Folks. This is really not a question but rather an addition to the discussion. On July 11 RBC came out with a report downgrading HCG from market perform to under perform. It seemed quite well reasoned to me and made the point that RBC now sees HCG as a steady growth company rather than a high growth company. They think this problem is specific to HCG and not industry wide. They think HCG can deliver double digit EPS growth long term but in the near term it is likely to be low to mid single digit.

Q: Sorry, yet another HCG question. I have owned the stock for sometime and have faith in management, however I am wondering how one interprets an extraordinary announcement like this.
In your response to Jerry you say the company screwed up. Management on the other hand would have us believe this is evidence of their "continued progress" with originations. Maybe the "rebound in origination volumes" is especially strong and they forgot to put numbers to it.
Certainly they expect to achieve mid term guidance despite everything.
The language in these types of announcements is so convoluted. Perhaps with your many years in the business you could help with a translation/interpretation.
Many thanks
Mike

Q: Good morning Peter and Team,
Thanks for your answer to my question about HCG. I recently came across this article: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-investor/investment-ideas/big-bank-alternative-equitable-is-good-value-and-growing/article25486861/
In the article, there are two paragraphs that stood out for me:
National Bank Financial analyst Shuba Khan said he doesn’t have any concerns about Equitable Group’s originations in light of Home Capital’s announcement.
“The issues that Home Capital highlighted appear to be company-specific,” said Mr. Khan, who has an “outperform” (similar to “buy”) and $71 target on Equitable Group.
5i is of the opinion that Home Capital's severe price decline is industry related. I do trust your insight, but am having difficulty reconciling the fact that EQB's stock hasn't suffered nearly as much, and would appreciate your comments.

Q: I am curious if you guys have any thoughts on the newly listed Inspira on the venture exchange?
Q: Lots of weakness for BEP. Any reason?
