Hello Peter
I am interested in Parkland Industries PKI. They recently bought Pioneer and I wonder what they actually bought. Did they get freehold ownership of all the gas stations? Do they own all the convenience stores? Are the Convenience stores run by contractors? What do you think of the potential of this aquisition looking ahead a few years? I wonder why Alimentation Couche Tard didn't buy Pioneer as it would seem to fit their model. Did Parkland just get lucky? And finally what do you think of Parkland as a long term investment for both growth and dividend?
Thank you Paul K

Q: Hi team:
I owned the above and my US exposure is relatively low as most of my equity is in the Canadian market
I would like to add the above as I have some cash
Would you say that it is safe to put 1/3 of my money in and wait for another 2 months to add another 1/ to see how the market would be ?
I am holding it for 3-5 years period, thanks Team!

Q: Hi 5i team,
I have 11% of my portfolio in REITs and real estate stocks and these are CUF.UN (7%), FCR (2%) and HR.UN (2%). I am wondering whether I should reduce CUF.UN to 5% and buy something else in this sector? CUF.UN seems to underperform other real estate stocks but I really cannot find anything wrong with this company - reasonable debt, low P/E, high dividend... Am I missing something negative WRT CUF.UN? I have no problem holding the stock for 2-3 year term as long as dividend is safe and the company remains profitable. So here are my questions summarized:
1. Is there anything wrong with CUF.UN fundamentals and expectations?
2. Do you suggest to (a) reduce (b) liquidate my CUF.UN holdings?
3. If the answer to previous question is "yes" where would you reinvest in this or similar sector?

Thanks a lot! You are absolutely the best investment service I encountered in my 20+ years of investing.

Q: Than you for your continual great investment and educational advice and responses.

My question relates to the future building of LNG plants in BC. Although this might be many years away before building actually begins, are you able to identify any companies that may be in a position to benefit from the construction aspect at this time. Given that there is very special need for very specific types of either construction or manufacture of specific types of infrastructure for these plants, I would think that there may be a limited amount of companies that could provide the product or the expertise.

Any thoughts you may have for this potential long term investment would be appreciated.

Q: I have been holding shares of SSL for some time now and am wondering why it is doing so poorly for a gold royalty company. The bigger ones seem to be holding up much better. What is your prognosis for this company? Thanks so much for your advice.

Q: I was talking to Peter at the Money Show along and so were many others. I put in limit orders and would it be a good thing if I put the limit order for more than one day? Asking about a couple of my holdings SYZ has large daily swings of almost 10% - is this indicating something? DEE (Delphi) has been in a downwards trend about the biggest downward trend of the resource sector and I noticed some negative news on it on October 23 and it escalated the fall. Is there any hope for this security?

Q: Hello Peter
The recent stock prices decline has given me an idea to open new portfolio "an exceptionally concentrated portfolio" that I found idea in your 5i Research Blog from July 20,2014.
Please give to me your 5 best at this time candidates for this type of portfolio that one can double down on them.
Thanks Andrew B.

Q: What do you think about a RME and CVL vs ACQ for a long term BUY (5yrs)?

ACQ is roughly UP 40% on a YEAR CHART vs RME & CVL DOWN roughly 20%.

I have looked at basic ratios.

P/E RME 14%, CVL 14% ACQ 30%
YIELD RME 4.1% CVL 4.5% ACQ 1.5%
PAYOUT RME 54% CVL 77% ACQ 44%
GR MARGINRME 13.8% CVL 18% ACQ 17%
ROE RME 9.27% CVL 9% ACQ 21%
DEBT/EQ RME 24% CVL 38% ACQ 141%

To me looks like AGRI is the low side of a cycle and why it is a laggard right now compared to increasing high cars sales in Canada.

Can you give me your thoughts on RME and CVL vs ACQ?

Thank you
Regards
Stephane.M

Q: Hi Team. Just a general question. What is the relationship between share price and net asset value of companies? Is book value and net asset value the same? Some companies trade at multiples of book value. Thanks for the help. Joe

Q: I have a sum of new money to invest and would like to invest 20% of it into the 'bond side' for balance. Ignoring what I may already hold in bonds, could you suggest an ETF or ETF's that would be an appropriate purchase? Would the ETF's in your income portfolio be appropriate?
thanks
