Q: Hi 5i team
This is a general question. I always seem to be two steps behind in knowing what is happening with stocks in particular and markets in general. What would you suggest that I subscribe to or read on a daily basis to be informed on a more timely manner regarding my particular stocks and those on my watchlist, without devoting all day to it).

Q: Good Morning 5i,

As an investor who recently took control of my finances from my company directed investments I have found 5i to be a good friend and am making gains I never did previously. Thank you for that! I met another investor while on holiday who casually mentioned that what I should be doing is trading options...what would your advice be? Include options as part of my strategy or simply stick with the Model Portfolio and maybe 1 or 2 other stocks with 1 being a higher risk, higher gainer and 1 being an ETF?

I bought 100 shares of Badger a while ago at $36. It is now sitting around $30, partly because a couple of gurus stated on BNN that it would go down to approx $20. I wonder if this is a time to buy more or should I just sit tight for a while and see where it goes. Thanks in advance for your good advice.

Perhaps 2 would cover more subscribers. 1 in Waterloo which would be easy and within range of Windsor, Barrie etc as well as tri-cities, London and perhaps Toronto and maybe one somewhere east of Toronto for that area of the province.

I often watch BNN when they have analysts on and I have noticed that when the analyst reveals their top 3 selections most often the disclosure statements indicate that the analyst does not actually own the stock personally nor do family members own the stock. Almost always though it is held in the fund that they manage. Are analysts generally precluded from owing stock that they recommend for their funds to hold?

Can I get your opinion on MCR's results please.

Obviously the headline numbers are a huge miss (and the market is punishing it accordingly). I would have thought the losses in their fixed contract fiasco, and subsequent impact on margins, was already priced into the stock, but I guess not. They claim to be moving away from fixed contracts moving forward. They keep referring to that contract as a 'strategic contract' (I assume that means they were trying to buy a relationship by under cutting their competition...), do you see this bearing fruits by way of future (non fixed) contracts moving forward?

I purchased a very small position earlier in the year, and have averaged down a couple of times (I own MCR and E as my small cap exposure to energy infrastructure). MCR is still a small position in my portfolio, maybe I love punishment, but the market cap is now only $100MM, It almost makes that much revenue every year, assuming they can fix the structure of their contracts and win a couple bids, it seems like it has nowhere to go but up??!?… of course, I’ve thought that for some time now. I don’t like holding positions under a 1% weight in my portfolio so I feel like I should either cut it or add a little bit more? I’m fairly patient, but don’t want to keep throwing money behind a sinking ship either.

Q: I have set aside funds specifically for the purpose of establishing an income portfolio. While I understand your reservations in trying to time the market, could you recommend a strategy for deploying the funds giving consideration to the weak seasonal period for equities we are entering, the imminent elimination of QE, and the potential for incremental increases in interest rates starting within the next six months. Would it be wise to place the funds in money market, or even a short term bond etf like VSB or VSC, and wait till later in the year to begin the investing process? What ideas in the 5i income portfolio are buy-able currently? Many thanks.
