Q: Have I missed something with this stock? It has been dropping quite a bit. I do not have a position, but am thinking of buying. Also, how are its dividends (distributions) treated by the CRA. Are they considered Canadian, and are they given favourable tax treatment, or is it a U.S. MLP? I have had not had success trying to recover any of the 39.6% holdback with another US MLP.
Q: Any thoughts on Profound which is expected to trade on June 8? Knight has invested and Goodman will be on the BOD. I know you generally like to wait and see where things settle down
Thanks
Q: Ref. the question asked by Murray earlier today. If he is concerned about liquidity on the TSX, I'm sure he could ask his broker to transfer those shares to the US side of his portfolio and avoid selling and buying fees.
I managed to do this when I had similar concerns and RBC did it at no cost.
Q: It seems like a pull back is imminent between now and November. I would like to keep my gains I have made in my TFSA over the past few years. Would FSZ be a good place to hide or can you suggest somewhere else to hide.
Q: Hello Peter. Dont see the month end portfolio reports yet under reports section
Am I missing something or still not posted. If not posted yet, when can we expect
Thanks
Q: You were asked a question a few weeks ago about AIG vs. KKR. You noted that US interest rates are likely to rise and that helps insurance companies but for other reasons you felt KKR may be the better buy for growth.
My question concerns rising interest rates and how they would affect a deal making company like (though not specifically) KKR. I see how rising rates help the insurance industry. But wouldn't the same increase hurt KKR since borrowing costs could rise. Or are you of the opinion that the increase will not be large enough so as to dampen merger and acquisition activity, at least in the medium to longer term.
Q: I noticed big volume yesterday and a pop over $7.00 a share. I own CF at $12.00 a share. I know you prefer averaging up not down but woukd CF potentially be one to average down on considering the yield and management. I wish I had averaged down on BDI and ACQ since they have recovered nicely.
Q: After reading your reply and review of BIN today I discovered that made a presentation June 1 at the Stifel Waste Expo Investor Summit. It is on their website to listen to. I must say I was not impressed with the interview presentation.Their could still be more downside yet. What is your take on it.
Q: From my understanding with Dupont it is going to split or break up into two companies. I think it takes place on July 1st 2015. Can you please confirm? Also my research does not extend much past that. Should I hold or sell before this split? I am leaning towards holding but after that I am not sure if I should keep DD or both? Will Dupont be worth holding after the breakup and what about that second company. When Abbot Labs split I knew more and I wanted to keep both Abbvie and Abbot which I did. But Dupont I know nothing about. Please advise on any information you may have.
Q: I have a TFSA with BMO at 40%, SYZ at 10% and unfortunately TA at 11%. I have 18.5k to invest. Overall I am down. Can I please get your recommendations? Good for the long term.
Q: What do you think about starting a full position on Laurentian bank today primarily for income? Earnings look good to me. I don't own the stock but I'm considering buying it because if I'm right, they do little lending to companies in the oil industry. They also have the least client borrowers who work in that industry. I like that the forward PE of 8.5 and the 4.5% dividend. On the other hand, the valuation has always been less than the big banks so maybe the cheap PE isn't worth factoring.
Q: looking for growth stock or ETF suggestions for monthly contributions for kids under 18.This will be a taxable account. Monthly amounts would be small ~$100.
Thanks
Q: The stock has steadily declined over the last 3 months and I wonder if you have any insight to this company and why the price has declined along with future insight to future performance?
REIT, UTILITIES, and TELECOM I believe are 'Interest Sensitive Sectors'?
Are there other 'Interest Sensitive Sectors'? in the TSX like maybe the Consumer Discretionary sector? or other?
Are these 'Interest Sensitive Sectors' affected as much by the US fed rate as by the Cdn fed rate?
If you were to give your best 'guesstimate' how much would these 'Interest Sensitive Sectors' fall in price (% wise) if Interest rates were to increase say 1/2 a percent?
Q: Would be interested in your current views of VXS particularly in light of the recent senior management changes and the company's continued revenue growth and financial performance.
Q: Hello Peter & team: Appreciated your comments on BNN recently. I plan to sell one of the three following REITs that I currently hold in my portfolio: FCR; PLZ.UN; and AAR.UN. I have roughly the same gain on each but would like to free up some cash. Which would you recommend selling? Many thanks.
