Q: Hello 5i.
We hold small holdings of TD(325 shs) and BNS(230 shs) We also hold XIU and XIC. These ETFs hold TD and BNS in their top 10 holdings. As part of our financial sector we also hold 575 shs. of Gluskin Sheff(GS) My question then, is there any point in holding BNS and TD?

Q: Tim Horton THI - I have a return of 110% on THI with a 3.13% weighting in my portfolio. I am trying to not be over diversified and target 3 to 5% for each stock in my portfolio. (Currently consolidating positions to hit my target range.) Currently I hold 10% of my portfolio in "Consumer Goods and Services" sector of the market. ( I have 5 sectors with weighting of 10 - 25% for each sector targeted) With recent gains THI is at my minimum threshold for a stock holding however it is very tempting to take profits here. I like the company and believe the synergies with Burger King could continue the good returns. I feel it may be overpriced here however. What advice would you have. Should I hold, trim and buy back on a dip, or sell outright? Thanks

Q: Good morning. re: CSS Contrans I spoke to the Scotia iTrade agent today and asked about voting on the Transforce takeover. The agent indicated that there are only 2 options. 1, Take no action. 2. Tender my shares. There was no option to vote against the takeover.

Q: How do you decide that a stock is too expensive to buy? DHX seems like a great growth stock, but it's trailing PE is about 100. Kelso also has a really high trailing PE. Doesn't this make them highly risky if they miss their numbers going forward? This is more a request for your philosophy on picking expensive, high growth stocks than about DHX or Kelso specifically. Thanks for your comments.

Q: Hello Peter,
From my understanding, the Canadian Banks typically are considered good value when their PE ratios are under 15. I am noticing that the ratios are getting close to 15 (i.e TD). From a technical standpoint, the RSI is still good (under 70) so am wondering if you would consider the banks approaching full value on fundamentals. I understand there is more to considering full value (ROE values etc), but when the banks approach PE of 15, is it time to reduce the weightings. Thanks for your advice. umed

Q: I am interested in your opinion on the two ETFs DIV and SDIV. DIV is a so-called "US super-dividend" ETF and pays dividends of about 5.3% per month with a management fee of 0.45%. SDIV is a so-called "global super-dividend" ETF paying 5.6-5.9% with a management fee of 0.58%. They appear to provide very good international diversification and excellent yield. Do you seek any downsides here?

Q: I own $6000 (par value) of Southern Pacific Resources (STP) non-secured senior bonds, due in 2018, that I purchased some time ago through my discount brokerage. All indications are that STP is on the verge of bankruptcy. Today, the market price of the STP bonds is 62 cents, indicating that likely some fraction of the bonds' face value should be recoverable during the (probable) bankruptcy proceedings.

As a retail investor, I do not know what the procedure is for small bondholders when a company is in bankruptcy. Assuming that bankruptcy occurs, will I need to personally make a claim for my money, or will I normally be able to "piggy-back" off the legal efforts of major bondholders and wait for the settlement? Do all bondholders need to share the legal expenses related to the bankruptcy proceedings?

Thanks for any clarifications you may be able to provide.

Proxyholders can vote again before the deadline with only the last vote counting. 'Take no Action' could result in voting for the management recommendation by default.
