Q: Hi Team,

Looking for some advice between 2 U.S Utilities....AT&T or Verizon.Growth and Income would be my main criteria in my decision with a 2-5year time horizon. I'm thinking of placing the position in one of my U.S registered accts for tax benifits.

Thanks

Q: Hello Peter and the 5i team
My question's are concerning Stella Jones.
1. Who are Stella Jones competitors and how much market share do they have in the rail tie business?
2. Which rail companies are customers of Stella Jones?
3. I have heard that some rail companies are starting to go with cement ( or some other material) for the use of their ties. Is this true? and will it affect Stella J?
4. How much growth do you see in this company over say the next 4-5 years?
5. What is the payout ratio of SJ and is it sustainable?

Thanks

Q: Hi - I'm just starting to invest actively at age 45 with a 15 yr timeline. I have 25k cash in a self directed rrsp and 8k cash in a tfsa. I want to keep long term growth in the rrsp (I can tolerate volatility) and make riskier investments in my tfsa. I'm looking at flyht (fly.v) and CMH for starters in my tfsa and wondering what you think and if you have any other suggestions. For my rrsp, I'm going to take positions in the model portfolio but so many of the stocks have had quite a run up and have high PE's; should I take my time and wait for a pullback? Thanks for your time. Our total portfolio is the 25+8k I mentioned in my question, but I am contributing 30k per year now and intend to increase that over the next 15 years.

Q: Hello Peter & Co,
Could you shed some light on the following, please?
Regarding CXI: it seems the share price has remained stable despite the lower than market issue because the institutional demand was very high and also because there was a 12 month trade restriction.
Regarding CGI: it seems that Computer Sciences CSC in the US is planning to split its business in government/commercial halves and that CGI is very much interested in acquiring the commercial half.
Thanks,
Antoine

Q: Hi Peter and Team,

I've acquired Goldcorp, Franco-Nevada and Silver Wheaton in roughly equal proportions over the last 18 months or so. G is up 3.1%, SLW is up 18.2% and FNV is up 35.9%. I was thinking of selling G and splitting the proceeds equally between FNV and SLW since they seem to perform better. I realize G is an operating company and the two others are royalty streamers. Do you think I am better holding all three or focusing only on SLW and FNV? Taxes are not a consideration if I sell G. FNV and SLW would represent ~4% each in my portfolio (which is fine with me) if I make the switch. I realize I'd be giving up on some dividend yield if I sell G, but perhaps the dividend is not that safe anyway. Any thoughts you have would be appreciated.

Many thanks. Michael

Q: Besides Chartwell what are some other names that provide assisted living at various increasing levels of care for Seniors? I would be interested in US names because of the larger population. The Canadian names all seem to have large dividends the are unsupported by published earnings.
Thank you.

Q: Hi 5i can you give me some understanding of this company. according to TD Web it trades at a PE of 5,div of 15.6% with earnings of 1.91/share - it has traded in the $9-$10 range for some time. for income investors what are the risks - rising interest rates? payout ratio of 89% too high or D/C of 60% too risky - maybe no growth or are they just returning my capital would appreciate your knowledgeable views thanks Paul

Q: Your answer to Marilyn,Feb 20, regarding a CXI financial issue
raised more questions. Will the stock price pullback to 26 or 27 $ area? Is this not what usually happens when a company makes a "new issue" below current price? If this deal "allows larger investors to get in" as you suggest, could they possibly snap up the new issue price in some kind of dark pool; thus leaving out any possibility of a pullback that retail investors
could participate in? If the stock price for CXI does go down to $26 or 27, I think it would be a great buy opportunity - do you agree? Thankyou. I really enjoy the Q&A......Lionel
