Q: Hi.... More of a comment than a question.
Eit.un recently redeemed 20 percent of the units I tendered to their annual voluntary redemption offer. The redemption price per unit exceeded the current market price by $1.45 per share. 20% of $1.45 is 29 cents. The annual Mer on this fund is approximately 25 cents per unit per year.
As a result owners of Eit.un who tender and then re purchase the tendered units get the fund services for free. Cool, eh?

Q: On January 2nd you stated the cumulative contribution limit on a TFSA was $36,500. What am I missing, my calculation puts it at $26,500??

Q: Most analysts warn that you should never hold leveraged ETF's long term. But I see some very large annual returns that are very close to the "three times" the return of the underlying ETF. Is there anything wrong with setting aside 10% of one's portfolio to try to supersize returns in sectors of high conviction. I am thinking of FAS (financials), TECL (technology) and CURE (healthcare).

Q: I note that VUS appears to use derivatives to underpin its investments. Given the role played by derivatives in the 2008 debacle, how safe is this ETF?

I am hoping you can help with an analysis of CSU.My broker shows expected earnings for 2015 of $15.09 although that is up from 14.89 60 days ago.Is this what you are expecting? Also I am wondering what cash flow number you expect.
Is cash flow a better figure to look at here? I notice they record Goodwill and Intangibles separately but only amortize Intangibles?
Would a declining Euro have much impact on their numbers?

Q: I have held on to this stock in order to take the gain in 2015. There was some talk around the time the takeover was announced about an extraordinary dividend upon closing. Do you have any news or information about this? Should I sell or hold on until closing?

Q: On the above mentioned ETF's, which are supposed to pay a dividend monthly, these ones did not pay anything in December. It appears that they will pay in early January. Will I expect two payments in January then? How can an ETF quote that they pay monthly when they do not. This could impact investors who depend on fixed income. Thanks for your response.

Q: Hi peter I recently read a "research report" citing the wrong dividend yield for COS. At the current price of $10 and change and the annual yield at 80 cents annually the yield is around 7.5% give or take a basis point or two. I mention this because at these levels a yield in this range is sustainable even at oil $52/barrel. Do you agree? Do you see another quick leg down for oil prices only to spring back up to the magical prices area just below where most shale producers are still losing money (65). Thanks.

Q: Happy New Year..
I have been conservative in my TFSA. Was thinking of selling SLF, BMO, and CM. All up 30 to 50%. Taking on more risk/potential growth..SGY, ARE, RRX,DHX.B and MND. They seem beat up and I have plenty of time and do not need the cash. Not being greedy, just thinking I'm not using the TFSA to its full potential.Can you comment and add two or three other suggestions?

Q: Happy New Year. I have a 30 stock portfolio that is equal weighted. One of the position is BPF.UN. I have concerns that Boston Pizza will face headwinds this year given 103 out of 358 stores are located in Alberta and that part of the Canadian economy will taking it on the chin due to lower oil prices. Is this a concern? If you held this would you continue to hold? many thanks.

Q: Hi Peter, Regarding the closing of acquisition of Pioneer Energy:

"Parkland announces that its 2015 guidance of $235 million to $265 million in EBITDA will be reduced due to this delayed closing. Parkland's 2015 guidance will be updated once the consents and approvals have been obtained, and the anticipated closing date for the Acquisition is determined. Parkland does not expect the annualized EBITDA of the Acquisition of approximately $55 million to be affected by this delayed closing."

What are your thoughts on this? How would this affect the stock price? I own it @ 21.50....if affected negatively, would it be a good idea to sell and repurchase at a lower price?
