Q: I am thinking of selling a 2% weighting in PWF to purchase "First Quantum Minerals". It would increase my materials weighting to about 12%. I would still be overweight in financials (BNS, TD and SLF remaining).

My materials weighting is creeping up and secure dividend income reduced for possible capital gain.

Do you like First Quantum and does it seem to make sense to sell PWF to buy them? I was an old Inmet share holder who didn't want to tender to First Quantum. But it must be said they picked-up Inmet on the cheap so I guess we have to give them credit. Inmet had some great copper properties and the price of copper just seems to be getting stronger.

Your thoughts please.

Q: Could you suggest some laddered bond etfs or would you cosider them too risky at this stage because of impending interest hikes?Are there any other fixed income products for investors trying to protect their principal? Thanks for all your help.

I saw your answer for Rod when you replied;

"We are very comfortable with the credit quality and management of Element."

I've been watching EFN for some time. As of today it is below it's 50 day average.

I was wondering what you see moving forward considering their recent purchase of PHH?

FYI... Bruce Campbell on May 2nd ($13.13) had it as one of his top picks.

Q: This is just a comment.... I think you should have a button that says "make a donation" so that those of use that feel we would like to buy you a beer could just press it and send you a donation of x number of dollars. Q: I was stunned to see that Sun Life tops a list of Corporate Canada's mountains of cash - a recent Globe and Mail piece - with $6 bb. Could you speculate what they might do with it? Hopefully not purchase a US mutual fund like Great West did with Putnam! On the subject of lifeco's I stumbled across an ad for a class action lawsuit with Manulife, the stock that was touted to be as safe as houses.
