Q: Hello Peter,
There have been many short sellers in the last few years in health care and now in Cannabis stocks. At this point, time will tell on Aphria, but for others like Valeant etc the short sellers were correct. I find it interesting that the brokerage firms, and analyst that covered these companies gave high marks and all of a sudden with a short report, they either revised their price targets or put out a release that the stock is under review rather than defend their own analysis. I am starting to question the analysis that is done by Canadian firms and their ratings. How is it that the short sellers are able to find things that the analysts covering these companies have not managed to even come across? Can you please comment as this is getting ridiculous when analysts and BNN Guests talk highly of companies and than we find out the shortfalls in these companies. Where is the accountability on these analysts and brokerage firms that put out good reports? Thanks very much

Q: I am aware that these companies have high debt levels. However, would you view any one of them investable? Or would there be similar companies with better growth prospects?
Thanks for your input!

Q: My first question on Points (Peter would know this well as it used to be in the Sprott Growth Fund) and VRX (Valiant) are two stocks that seem to have a lot of momentum for the last little bit. Do you think that they would be too risky to add to a portfolio - I am medium to high risk. Always appreciating your great service. Thanks Dennis

Q: Greetings 5i,

VRX seems to have rallied since it reported. Mgt looks to be doing a good job in reducing debt and providing transparency. They also offered notes I believe mid November reducing near term debt. I know you are cautious re: VRX however what additionally would be needed to endorse this company? It seems to be racing away as we sit and hope for more improvements.

Cheers!

Q: Howdy! The Kiki Delaney chapter in "Market Masters" has inspired me to invest more in Quebec-based equities. I already have BCE, CAE, CNR & GUD. Please rank the top 3 in this list (or other Quebec-based equities that I didn't list) to add right now purely on long-term (3-5 yrs) appreciation (value + dividends).
Thank you,
David L

Q: Hello Peter,
With regards to the question posed to you for HCG by one of your members, i can relate to the frustration and disappointment that your team did not see it coming. However, at the same time, as investors, we have to realize that you can only advise based on the data you have available. Past data can be used as input to determine Future company or sector trends, but cannot guarantee success as no one can predict the future. I think it is best to focus on how we can avoid such stocks in the future given great metrics in the past (HCG had high ROE, decent PE etc ) and all of a sudden we start hearing issues with the company. Can you please shed light on what investors can watch for to avoid such pitfalls? I am using your service, watch BNN, read newspapers and other letters along with placing stop losses to minimize downside. From what i have seen, it is best to stick to decent paying dividend stocks like BCE, SLF, Banks, etc Growth stocks just seem to have too much hidden which comes to surface later or they are targets for short sellers. Thanks for your valuable input.
