Q: Hi team,

This is my first non-tech question in quite a while. I try to balance my tech stocks with some names in other sectors. CF came to my attention today from a TD report. It is on one of my watch lists but I haven’t followed it closely in a couple of years. TD gives it a Buy, Higher Risk rating with a target of $9.50 although I don’t find target prices very meaningful. Part of their rationale is CF’s recent purchase of U.S.-based advisory firm Petsky Prunier, who focus on mid-market segments and have a growing presence in the cannabis space for IPOs and mergers in the U.S. CF itself seems to have a strong presence in cannabis deals in Canada and potentially internationally. The cannabis segment is here to stay, regardless of the high valuations. I am not a weed guy as such, but if CF can continue to grab a good chuck of these deals, it may bode well for it.

What are the pros and cons of an investment in CF at this time? I notice you gave it a B- in your Company report last August, which is not a strong grade, but perhaps things have changed.

Thanks again.
Dave

Q: Good morning,
I am looking to establish some additional convertible debenture positions( I currently own an Exchange Income cv debenture) and would appreciate your feedback/suggestions , with a goal of 4.5 - 5% yield in companies with healthy balance sheets and a high probability of being able to service the debt and repay principal.
Thank you

Q: I have owned Canaccord Genuity for several years. On July 4th, 2017, CF announced a (SPAC)deal. This deal appears to create an opportunity to purchase shares in a yet to be found company. Can you explain how CF is going to make money in this deal? Is this an IPO of shares when an acquisition is found? Will CF continue to hold the majority of the shares in the new acquisition?
This deal seem complex to a simple investor like me. Can you help? Is this a good deal for CF?

Cheers,
David

Q: I sometimes like to be a bottom feeder, the above list of companies are all from the growth portfolio and are under water. Do you still have conviction on any of these names for a recovery? Could you please rank the strongest.

Q: The safest of financials have rallied a lot (big banks). I assume that investors will start going into the riskier financials. What do you think about buying a 1/2 position in a broker? Gluskin Sheff pays a 5% dividend, however there is that lawsuit overhang, so, I'm tilting towards Canacord Genuity. With the strength in the materials sector, do you expect $CF to start getting more contracts from that industry? I believe that's the core of their business? I could wait a quarter or two, but those stocks move very fast and my error in the past has been buying when everyone likes a stock (2014), rather than the other way around (summer 2016). Trying to change this, but as safely as possible. Thank you!
