Q: I want some information on Liquid Alternative funds. I believe they would add diversification to my portfolio of stocks and bonds. I would consider 10% weighing as they are more risky. What mutual funds or ETFs would be suitable to invest in this category for a DIY investor (through a discount broker ) ? I would be looking for consistent performance and good track record.

Q: July 10 2019 you gave the following opinion on EDG100
"We are generally not huge fans of mutual funds for their higher fees, but EDG100 is an exception that has consistently justified the higher fees through its performance. We would be fine keeping it."
1) Just wondering what your thoughts are on this mutual fund today and are the high fee still justified by it performance?
2) What alternative that operate in the same space would you suggest looking into?

Mawer Global Equity Fund Series A (MAW120 $45.89)
-
Mawer International Equity Fund Series A (MAW102 $90.14)
Q: For international/global investments, Mawer appears to have performed well.
Would you consider either of these mutual funds adequate exposure or would there be also ETFs that would cover similar holdings, which I would prefer.
Thank you!

Q: This comment on Jimmy's question regarding a concentrated fund. I suggest that he looks at GFI good opportunities fund for comparison.
Q: Are you aware of any funds comparable to this US fund available to US investors only but not Canadian investors. Its very focused with the top 10 positions accounting for 60% of the fund with CSU being one of the positions and the results are very impressive with a very low turnover. Mawer seems somewhat similar but not as focused.

Q: What is your opinion of RBC Emerging Markets Bond Fund Series D (RBF1097.CF) ?
I bought it last October as part of my fixed income portfolio but it seems more volatile / riskier than I was expecting.

Q: Would like your opinion om this fund for my US account, its performance is excellent five star morningstar rating. MER at 2% is high. Is there a similar ETF with similar performance? Or should I just be contented paying this fee considering its return? Do you see this sector continuing to outperform?
Thanks

Q: Hi, My nephew was given some money (quantity unknown but probably less than 10k) and he wants to invest in stocks. I don't believe that he wants to start a trading account. So, I imagine that something at his Bank or Credit Union would be the most appropriate. Does this restrict him to mutual funds and if so please provide me with 3 or 4 that will get him on the road to investing.
Many Thanks Gord

Mawer Global Balanced Fund Series A (MAW130 $20.78)
Q: Hello,
I have Mawer Balanced Fund fund and Mawer Global Small Cap funds in my RRIF and RLIF to provide some diversification to the individual stocks that I also have. I am happy enough with these 2 funds, and woud like to add Mower Global Balanced Fund, to provide some further foreign diversification , but I do not wish to sell any thing right now to free up the cash, so I am considering
replacing the Balanced fund with the Global Balanced Fund. This might help my foreign diversification problem, but I am wondering if there is a disadvantage to making this swap that I cannot see. the resrt of my portolio is canadian and us stock and fixed income. Please let me know if you think that this is worth doing at this time.
Thank you

RBC Canadian Equity Income Fund Series F (RBF646 $52.52)
-
Sun Life Dynamic Equity Income Fund Series F (SUN477 $15.16)
Q: Hello 5i, I’ve invested a portion of my grandmother’s TFSA in CDZ looking for a decent diversified relatively low risk dividend (to be reinvested) payer, which I’ve seen recommended on here a few times. I was on morning star and I came across those two funds which seems to have outperformed despite their similarities and higher MER. Could you please explain the fundamental differences between the three and rank them from best to worst for a 5 year horizon according to your opinion? I wasn’t able to access the complete funds’ holding details. Thank you!!
Q: Hi Peter, Dennis Mitchell is always very impressive when he speaks. What do you think abour his (Starlights) real estate and infrastructure funds ? The MERs seem high, are they ? Any interest ? Thanks, Paul
Q: Appreciate your opinion on this fund "Perisen life settlement" , cannot find any "public" performance or MER information on this fund. How about risk and Is it worth considering. From ethical point of view it looks to me it is a fund that takes advantage of desperate and vulnerable individuals.
Thanks
Thanks

-
Mawer Emerging Markets Equity Fund Series A (MAW160 $18.27)
Q: I have small positions in the above referenced Mawer funds. At this time which of these funds would you recommend adding to. Thank You.
Q: I am looking for safety with essentially no downside but a return greater than a 6 month GIC (hoping for better in 2021). A Dynamic Alpha Performance II Fund Series A - FE has been recommended (not sure which series actually). I am skeptical given the high MER. I would very much appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

Q: On yahoo finance charts, When I compare Mawer global equity fund vs enzl/ewl it shows that it outperforms those etfs.
But If you consider the currency conversion is it fair to say enzl and ewl have outperformed the Mawer Global fund?
