Q: REITS: I just read your report on MRC and, despite a low yield %, the B+ rating makes it tempting. Would it make sense for me to switch out of one or more of the following in order to then add MRC to my portfolio? Other REITS currently held include: CWT.un, GRT, DI.un, AAR.un, AP.un and HR.un.

Thank you again.

Q: re: AYA & June 22 answer for Jeff re weighting

I see your comments for Jeff on portfolio weighting as being very wise and are comments we should all respect.

Originally my portfolio weighting for AYA was 2%. With the recent rise it is up to 4.6%. Should I be trimming this down?

You know that little voice inside my head wants me to just "let it ride."

Thanks for all you do

Gord

Q: Peter and Team,

Any thought on Amaya's announcement this mornging that they are increasing the size of the preferred share offering? They are convertible at $24 so my first thought was that this is good and that there is demand from the group of pros investing here for stock at $24. However, I wonder why Amaya would do this... I thought they knew how much money they needed to do this deal when it was originally announced. What are the new funds to be used for?

Thoughts?

Q: Hi Peter (and Crew),

I am totally pleased with the service you offer.

I rarely ask questions as I find accessing the questions database almost always provides the information I need.

I am looking to add a retirement holding to my TSFA. The time frame is a minimum of a 10 year hold. I am looking for cap gain and yield and am considering Chartwell (CSH.UN). Would you recommend it and if not, could you recommend 1 or 2 names that you prefer in this space.

Thanks for the wonderful service.

Q: With about a 7 year time frame before my grandchildren may need to start drawing money out of the RESP that I have for them, could you please suggest 4 or 5 stocks that don't necessarily need to "shoot the lights" out in performance but that are relatively safe and will provide an average plus return for this time period. Dividend payers/growers are fine with some added capital gains would be ideal.
Thank you.

Q: Thanks for the report on BPF.UN. Is the distribution treated like dividend income income? (i.e. does it qualify for the dividend tax credit?

Q: Based on the price appreciation of Amaya this month the Model Portfolio weighting has likely gone from 5-6% to 10-11%, unless there's been a reallocation, as there was in May. I get the philosophy of not wanting a position to get too large in a portfolio but surely this idea might be counterbalanced sometimes by the idea of letting your profits run (and not adding to your losers) particularly on a stock that has such a great promise. If profits were taken on AYA on the way up, at what point was the decision made to do so, and what was the rationale behind it? Thanks, J.

Q: Highliner (HLF) had a 13% increase this past week. Are there takeover rumours or anything else going on at the company to explain this?

Q: I have held on to Cominar REIT and Northland Power for a year and a half and 2 years respectively on the theory that there is no point in realizing my loss and putting the money to work elsewhere unless the outlook for CUF and NPI is dim. Is my reasoning right, and if it is, is the outlook OK for those two? CUF, sadly is in a TFSA. I'm trying to wrap my head around "selling your losers" versus needlessly trading. Thank you so much for this service. I am really enjoying the education I am receiving thanks to you.
