What are your thoughts on Fiera's deal announced today, strategy to grow through acquisition in the competitive US Wealth Management market and valuation on assets acquired?

Q: Hello, You have commented on Winpak (WPK)and rated it a B+. Do you still feel it is a buy at these levels and will provide growth? Do you have any comments on CCL Industries (CCL.B). While both companies are in the packaging business are they comparable. Thank you.

Q: My question is on Starbucks. I never really hear anything good to say about SBUX. I purchased 150 shares at $36.53 back in April 2011. I have a nice profit and I know it trades at a high multiple and is expensive. I am kind of hanging on in the hopes of a 2:1 split. What are the chances it will split and do you think it has room to go higher. If they get a miss on earnings how far do you think they will fall?

Q: Hi 5i,
Can you provide me with some information on what you would say are your sell recomendations? I searched by rating and found only 3 stocks in the d category with the most recent update of Oct/12 and 1 stock in the f- category with an updtae of Jan/12. Have there been no other losers or stocks to sell? How often do you go through the model portfolio and provide updates? What level A,B,C, etc do you think a sell fits in?

Q: EEP-N: Largest liquid oil pipeline in the US in which Enbridge is a stakeholder. It has a fairly large yield of over 7% and dividends have been slowly increasing over years. Although this co. is not high growth, would this be a good holding in a RRSP. Do you see any valuation risk or stagnant/lowered divided in the next 5 years?

Q: For the fixed income portion of my US holdings would stocks like MTGE, AGNC, NLY, HTS and CMO be appropriate. They all have high yields. Or does the downside risk on their share prices when interest rates increase make this an unwise investment plan?

If so, what would make more sense?

My question is about Rogers Communications (TSX: RCI.B). With the news that Verizon is no longer interested in coming into Canada as the "feared" big 4th carrier, do you think it was undervalued when the rumours were abound and what do you think the prospects are going into the near term?

Q: Hi Peter and the 5i Team: Is there any news on Contrans (CSS) as it's down over 3.4% today? You've said in the best that CSS should be OK in a "good" economy, so does the stock price decline reflect something negative about the economy? Or are there other factors at play here? Thanks.

Q: In my investment portfolio I own preferred shares, bought for safety and peace of mind in my investments. The preferred shares are from good stocks such as bce, banks, brookfield. The preferred shares make up about 10% of my portfolio. All these pref shrs are down quite significantly right now. Am I correct in my understanding that on the five year maturity these shares can be redeemed for $25. If this is right, would it be a good investment to buy more of these pref shrs right now while they are down in value and make more capital gain?

Q: As a dual citizen (I took out US citizenship when I lived there in the 1980s) I pay taxes in both countries. I have hesitated to buy US equities because of the witholding on dividends, which I never get back. But your recent answer reminded me that I would probably be stuck with a capital gains tax as well. Is that true as far as you know?
