Q: HI,

I bought a small stakee in ACQ(1 %) (after having sold it ata good profit) just in time for it to decline 42 %.I would almost need ACQ to double from here to break even. I am think that either of XTC or GC is more likely to double sooner.
Would selling ACQ and buying XTC with the proceeds be a good idea? I own Amaya (5%) and Magna (1.5%). Or should I just top up ACQ ?

Q: I've been helping my son build a portfolio of stocks and so far he has the usual collection of banks, pipelines and utilities that pay dividends and that he can DRIP. Since he is only 23, he'd like to add two growth stocks to his portfolio. In the model portfolio, I've looked at Amaya, which has more than doubled this year (and faces insider trading problems) and ccl.b, which has gone up over 50%. At this point in time, with a longer time frame, what 2 growth stocks would you recommend for us to consider?

This stock has been range bound for a year. When it gains traction, the incessant attack from the Globe pulls it down again. When do you think the inevitable break out occurs? With Bwin, US entry and sportbetting all around the corner and the Casino roll out. With delivery over and over again by Baasov and a hedge fund in at 30 to 34. Do you want to miss the rocket launch? You won't ever get in at the price you sell. Period.

Mr. Hodson, would you care to comment on the above ?

Q: On Friday Enbridge said it has reached a long anticipated deal to transfer some of its Canadian pipeline and renewable energy assets to Enbridge Income Fund. This move is to allow ENB to boost its dividend and accelerate growth.

While ENB common was up significantly its preferred shares (including ENB.PR.A (B, H, N, etc.) where all down.

Are the preferred shares riskier now than they were before the announcement? Do the preferred represent good value? If so, is there any series that you would favour?

Q: Hi Peter and Team:
There are now a number of perpetual preferred floating rate shares. Do they present an opportunity. EX: TRP series 3. TRP.B-T. Coupon for first 5 years 4%. Will reset at 2.25%, butpurchase price now 14.90. This works out to just under 4%.
As rates go up it will float up. It is preferred as to what?
Would you please point out all the risks with these. There
must also be some pros. They never mature so if the rate rose too much I imagine they would be redeemed. Thanks very much.

Q: This question is in regard to Canadian Banks.
When you look under key stats (yahoo finance) there is a section called "Enterprise Value".
For the 4 banks I looked up all have negative numbers in the billions (TD being the lowest at -21B).
Also the operating cash flow shows a similar pattern of minus numbers in the billions (BNS being lowest at -6B).
Am I taking enterprise value and operating cash flow out of context to mean something different than it sounds?
When I think of Canadian Banks and their almost yearly record profits, huge negative numbers like these don't usually come to mind.
Are these common for banks and can you give me a brief understanding of what they mean?

Q: The only holding in my TFSA, to which I have made maximum contributions, is SUMMIT REIT ( SMU.UN). I wanted a high yield growth stock and went with a small cap REIT.
I am going to sell half my holdings and diversify into another sector with a growth stock having a 4% plus yield. Would you have 2-3 suggestions? Thanks

Q: Peter, I am retiring from working soon and I have sufficient fixed income to cover all of my living costs. I have a decent size portfolio and I was looking at the various robo advisers, but they do not take into account your existing fixed income and most want to allocate up to 50% into bonds. I know that allocation between countries is a personal decision but wouldn't mind your thoughts on what I am thinking. Canada 60% (comprised of XEI, CDZ, VDY); US 30% (IWO, VGH, IBB, XUS or a hedged version) and 10% (VEE, FEZ). I prefer hedged ETF's over unhedged.

I do have a 5i portfolio of stocks in addition to this new one that I will be setting up. Great service!

Q: Peter, if the upcoming election is looking like Stephen may lose his majority or if it looks like he may not even form a minority government, would it be prudent to sell off a good portion of my portfolio before that time and sit on the sidelines with cash in hand? I can't imagine that an NDP government or a Liberal government under Trudeau would be a good thing for the markets.
