Q: What are your views on C-N (Citigroup) and HBC-N (HSBC? Do you consider HBC to be the more international of the ? Finally, would you prefer a more US or International focus on banks at this time. Thanks for the wonderful service you proved.

Q: Regarding the earlier question about Partners, PAR.UN my portfolio is set up for income with some growth with 4% in REITS.
Would you consider the addition of Partners as an opportunity to pick up yield with potential longer term capital appreciation once the dust clears or is there too much risk involved, either the distribution being maintained or other concerns?
If the addition has merrit would a switch from RioCan make sense or should I use new money?

Q: I am interested in Horizons Active Floating Rate Bond ETF ( HFR ) as part of a fixed income allocation. However, I am hesitant because of what I don't understand ie." The ETF may use derivatives,include interest rate swaps to deliver a floating rate of return." Is ths benign or a red flag?

I ve held Boston Pizza for 6 months and am down about 3-4 % .
Do you expect better things out of this company over the next 6-12 months ?
I m not sure whether to hold longer at least until the next dividend or to sell and invest in something with greater growth potential same sector or not .
What do you recommend ?

Q: I have held a Man AHL hedge fund MCC101 in my RRSP for a number of years. It did well in the market crash. I think it would do well in a market up turn but in an up and down market like we have had it does nothing. Is there any point in holding on to this? I think if I just followed your model portfolio I would do (a lot) better.

Q: What are your thoughts on rate reset preferred shares. I own some CCS.PR.D and next year is the reset date. Is it likely that they will be redeemed rather than reset? If so the return left on these is very poor, if they reset then I would think the price will rise.

Q: Hi Peter and Team

I am a timid do-it-yourselfer Senior and do appreciate the service that you and your team provide.

My question is about the treatment of an ETF, by the CRA, that is sold on both the TSX and NY, under different symbols. My example is the Vanguard ETF VIG and VGG, and there are others. They are both the same fund since VGG holds VIG as its sole holding. However VGG is sold on the TSX in Cdn dollars while VIG is sold on the NY exchange in US $. VGG is not hedged. Is VGG treated as a Canadian ETF and if so what implications does that hold for tax purposes since it has US holdings. They each pay a dividend in US$ and I would assume there would be a 15% withholding tax on each of them. Perhaps you might also comment on the requirement by the CRA to state whether or not one has $100 000 in foreign assets on one's tax return and what implications if any there are with purchasing either of these type of twin ETF's into one's portfolio. I would appreciate any clarification that you might provide.

Q: Bought some Royal bank of Scotland, I am a value investor, but with the announcement by gov of England talking about good bank/bad bank I assume this will reduce the book value of rbs. I realize it isn't a 5 star company maybe not even a 2 but neither was AIG after 2008. What are your thoughts on this latest news and rbs in general?
