Q: As year end approaches and many investors will be taking losses for tax purposes and perhaps driving prices down further, are you going to be reporting on some good companies that look like good buys in the final quarter? Bill

Q: Hi Peter & 5i: I’m hoping for an answer a trading question. When buying quite a lot of shares of a thinly traded micro-cap recently, through my discount broker’s online site, I noticed that by putting in a limit bid at the current ask price I was able to complete my trades of substantially more than the 100 share lot that was apparently the standing ask lot, without actually changing the standing ask price or lot size. Further, my trades appeared to be going through without registering any change on the day's traded volume numbers, despite my supposedly getting real-time updated quotes. I checked back later to make sure it wasn’t just a delay issue. Is my broker completing the transactions without putting them through the exchange that is tracked in the stock quotes? If so, it might have an impact on how I price my own bids and asks in future. Also, it is interesting if the indicated trading volume does not necessarily reflect the actual number of shares changing hand. Do the brokers update the volume stats later, for the purposes of technical indicators and the integrity of the record? Thanks for any help!
Q: Hi Peter: I love your work and have done very well recently with the help of your research. Thanks. I have a question on Fortress Paper. I am WAY underwater on this. Should bite the bullet and sell or should I hang on in the hopes of an improvement?
Q: Hey guys. Can I get your thoughs on crr.un. I've held it for a few years and have a pretty nice gain on it. Its held up better than most reits recently and I was thinking about locking in some gains and redeploying a portion of the cash into a higher quality reit that has declined lately like hr.un or cwt.un for a long term hold.
Do you think there is any chance Empire might take Crombie back in again? Thanks again.

Q: Hi there,
CP is up more than $5 this week alone -- a real run, even though RBC predicts Q3 earnings down. Any idea what's causing this? Do the staffing changes make that much difference? I've made a nice profit here == should i take it now? Thanks for helping me think this through!

Q: Peter, can you remark on gold in relation to job data. Today job numbers were better than expected - gold drops. Is this more about QE? ....if job data is good - does this effect the amount of QE - which will effect gold? Also, I understand the resistance level is about 1790 for gold - do you agree that if gold can push through this and hold - it will most likely go to 2000?.

Q: Peter, you may get a laugh out of this but could you ever see 5I going public. I am sure many of your members would love the opportunity to get in before an IPO.If nothing else it tells you how much I value this service. Steady growth with a safe dividend, I could imagine.
Q: Hi Peter,
I just became a memeber this week but I am very impressed by what I have read on the site so far. So here is my first question.
My broker called me today recommending that I sell trans canada pipeline and buy huskey. He has suggested this several times over the last year or so but I've been relunctant to sell trp given that i bought it at a low price so it pays me a 6% dividend. i have the cash to buy huskey without selling trp but I'm not sure it is a growth stock and I don't want to buy it just for the dividend as I prefer capital gains. can you give me an opionion on these two companies given the current market conditions?
Thanks Peter.

Q: Hi Peter, Gold had a good move today, coming close to the $1800 mark. What is you view on Gold for the next 1 year or so? Thank You,
Q: As a neophyte investor, I have some (basic) questions that I hope you can answer for me:
1. When a company consistently (over several quarters) shows red in the Retained Earnings column, what is really going on here? How do I use that information in conjunction with the rest of the information; i.e. what "line/s" should be most carefully considered?
2. When a company has a very large amount in the "Intangible Assets" line which accounts for most of their total assets, how do we interpret that in relation to their total liabilities? Do we totally discount this line?
Thanks!
Mike
