Q: In the last few months I have been rebuilding my "taxable" portfolio modeled on your balanced portfolio with the addition of some growth names. I am happy with my overall balance of equities and am now going to change my TFSA from an ETF to stocks. What are your top five picks from your balanced portfolio at this time. Similarly the top five picks from your growth portfolio. I realize you often hate questions like this but I do find your answers interesting. Thanks you for your excellent service!

Q: Hello!

I am mirroring your model portfolios and I currently have 50% of my holdings invested in Balanced, 25% Income and 10% Growth. I also have 10% of my portfolio equally split between VEF and VSP.

I have the opportunity to increase my holdings by about 30% and I'd appreciate your help in deploying those additional dollars.

Should I allocate across the board based on the same percentages? Should I up my percentage in VEF/VSP? Or is there something other investment(s) you would recommend?

I foresee a 6-8 year horizon before needing to draw down on any of these investments.

Thank you for all that you do. I really appreciate all your effort.

Best regards
M

Q: 5i Folk my daughter has a ten plus year investment horizon with approx $40k cash I'd like to invest for her into the Growth portfolio. She could therefore purchase say $2000 of each of the holdings but are there any you'd currently omit or lighten up on in favour of others you'd increase the weighting on or are you currently recommending all 20 or so because you like them equally long term (or they wouldn't be included if you didn't) and would you weight each of them equally?

Q: Signed up tonight after watching BNN. I have reviewed your website and have a question in how to translate this into a successful strategy.

I've gone over your portfolio's and have decided Growth is the profile I will follow.
My TSFA is nearly maxed out and currently all CASH.

Your Dec 31st Growth Model Update shows approx 25 companies with different allocations. Half of these show an NR (Which I assume is New Rating - Initiation)

Would you advise investing primarily in the NR's as a place to start this portfolio and over the coming years sell and buy as suggested? Or would you advise in investing in only those stocks with a grade higher than B+?

Thank you.

2) Is 5i still doing portfolio reviews ?

Thanks to the whole team for an outstanding service !

Q: when buying stocks you recommend depending on the stock up to a 5% weight based on total portfolio. My question is that since you are limited to how much you can put into a TFSA that a 3-5% of the total may be up to 30- 40% of the TFSA account, you could do very well or lose quite a bit in your TFSA depending on how the stock does.So should there a percentage difference when investing inside the TFSA especially if investing in some growth names that you have provided.

Q: Having built a cash position I am now looking at re-deploying into the market. S&P500 looks like a technical top but maybe on a long-term perspective it is ok. I own many of your names and would favour just increasing those positions as it would not result in over concentration on a name basis or a sector basis. No Oil & Gas due to long-term structural changes or mining due to too many operational and geopolitical challenges. So with this in mind, your top ten or so picks for long-term growth/income.

Q: What do you like about DBO? As you made room for this by removing CXI, I assume that you must really like this name.

Am I right in understand that the technology needs to be integrated into a film during the production process and can be quite labour intensive? Will this make it difficult for them to get a wide adoption of the technology?
