Q: Hi Team

Can you provide me with a list of the 2 "most blue chip" dividend stocks from each of the following sectors. my definition of blue chip is safe dividend, dominant place in market sector, and economic "moat".

Sectors
Financials (bank)
financials (non-bank)
Insurance
telecom
Energy (oil related)
Energy (not oil related)
Industrials
REITS
Consumer Staples.

I am asking regardless of current market volatility. I am trying to verify my own sense of the business world.

Q: Hi 5i team. How should one interpret bid size and ask size when looking at a stock trading on any exchange? For example at one point today there was a bid size of about 143000 and an ask size of about 4000 on a stock I was watching. They seem to change constantly. Does this have to do with computer trading? Thanks for the info. Joe

Q: Thankyou for reassuring all of us in these troubled waters. I have quite a bit of cash to introduce back into markets. Is the 3 days of positive market action a good indicator this down turn may be over? I know you don't have a crystal ball but how do we deploy a substantial amount of dollars back in to the prescribed portfolios?

Q: Hello 5i team,
I hold the model portfolio plus about another 10 stocks. In regards to Ambev which is trading near it 52 week low. Do you see much growth in Ambev over the next 2 years? I am down about 12%. I am debating on on averaging down OR selling it and adding that $US money to my Unilever holding and VXUS holding which have both been hit hard recently. Or I have the cash and can add to all 3 of those $US holdings (in-addition to other holdings in the model portfolio). Thank you for your advice.

Q: Delphi has been reduced almost 50% from its peak in August despite having what appears to be a pretty good track record. Would you consider this a tremendous buying opportunity or with the recent fall in oil & gas prices perhaps its cost of production exceeds the value of what it produces and the company is more likely to fall further particularly if these prices persist for say a year or more?

Q: Hi 5i,

Sometimes the market over-punishes a company, creating an excellent buying opportunity. Another factor could include a company with a poor communications strategy (doing well, just not communication the results well).

I mentioned Wi-Lan as perhaps the recent legal processes are being over-emphasized.

However, my question is, with the above themes, as of today do you have a few high quality income or growth companies (5 or 6) that are being over-punished, due to the current market conditions (and could be characterized as low-risk bargains). I am currently adding to my portfolio in small increments (not knowing when the bottom will arrive).

Q: I noticed Statoil is still declining while other oil majors are flat or bouncing today. What is your opinion on this company? I have a small position less than 1% of my portfolio. Should I hang on or cut losses? Is the dividend safe? It seems like its not afforded out of free cash flow.

Q: This is a very small company(I thus appreciate it is very risky). However, they have been around quite a while, have weathered a number of 'storms', and just released what seemed to me to be very good numbers. I have not been able to find out how much debt they may be carrying. I last asked about them in July and would much appreciate any updated information/opinion you may now be able to supply.

Q: Peter et al,
The market is looking a little better today. Energy(CPG, BTE & SGY) constitute 20% of my portfolio. With some bargains out there, I am considering adding White Cap. I thought of adding more BTE but decided to diversify a little bit. Your comment on that, pls.
Also my wife has almost nothing but cash in her portfolio so I am trying to persuade to consider BTE. Could you recommend that to her (who is extremely conservative)?

Q: I have a position in Ithaca that I intend to hold until they start production from the GSA deposit. That hopefully will be mid 2015. If that happens they are supposed to more than double their production to about 26000boe. They have about 50% of current production hedged at $102 until mid 2016. They claim to be on schedule and appear to be well financed. My question is about todays trading. For much of the day the stock was even or up a few cents. In the last hour or so one broker seemed to sell off a position and most of the trades had a symbol beside them and if you checked the expression MOC Trade appeared. I have never seen that before and wondered if you knew what it means. Thanks for any help. Joe

Q: Hello,

From your model and /or income portfolio can you name a few stocks which look even more attractive from a value perspective after the recent correction. I would like to invest about $10000 with a 2 year time frame in an investment account with a growth focus (some dividents would be great too).

Q: Would you consider this a good time to buy FM in view of the article in the globe that states a "heightened level of risk" from a possible decline in copper prices following Zambia's decision on Friday to raise royalties for open pit copper mines to 20% from 6%." The price still appears to be going down.

Q: Hello Team,

Can we please get your outlook on the tanker/shipping industry, specifically DHT Holdings and Tsakos Energy (recommended at Canaccord). Frontline (FRO) had a good bounce from the March 2009 lows and I am wondering if that kind of reaction can be expected from these two names. What do you think of their debt levels and prospects. Finally, from a sector weighting point of view, would they be associated to the energy sector.
