Q: I have been holding SAT (Asian Television) for about a year. My investment thesis was that the growth looked good (though lumpy), they initiated a 3% dividend, and they might get taken out at some point. For all my brilliant thinking, the stock has done precious little. Could I get your comments please. Thanks.
Q: Hello,
Can you please share your thoughts on preferred shares in a portfolio for a retail investor. I looked into it a few years ago and it seemed to me that the risk/return is not stellar. If interest rate goes down you will likely be redeemed and if interest rate goes up your capital will erode. Was I on the right track ? Thank you for your time and great service.
Q: Your thoughts on Dundee Precious Metals DPM, please? Or am I better off in one of your previous recommendations: Osisko, Yamana or Eldorado? Thanks for a great service!
Q: Peter:
You recently gave me some good advice to hold DL and treat is as cash. Thank you. DL is now doing a modified Dutch auction - any thoughts on the "independent" valuation and how to play the auction? Thank you.
Can you kindly provide your accessment of Mart Resources(MMT-V) .
They appear to have several catalysts moving forward as well as paying a dividend currently yielding close to 11%
Q: Hello Team,
What do you think of Taiga Building Products? TBL, what do you know about this 14% Note they are paying? It seems to me they have never had a negative earning in the last 10 years (According to Morningstars financials section). Their net margins are tiny so I am curious as to what you think.
Q: I bought TFI in March, and since then it has traded in a very narrow range, with a slightly negative tilt. I was considering CSS as an alternative given your recent positive report, but I wanted to wait until TFI's reporting today. In my opinion the report was impressive, both as to the company's strategy, and execution. I was therefore surprised to see the initial trades this morning were lower than they had been in the last 9 months, although TFI did end up slightly higher on the day. From the perpspectives of both company performance, and stock performance,is there a reason to favour one over the other between TFI and CSS?
Q: Just a comment. I had previously written in about eldest grand-daughter and stock picking. I am very pleased to say that she completely disregarded my well thought out reasoning and went with her own picks, and was able on the phone to expound upon why she believed that they were good at this time.
She picked out Estee Lauder, and understood the layering to different budgets in the company
HKG0027, a Macau gambling stock(she has been to Macau). She thought it quite likely it would do well regardless of the economy either here or in China. Finally she picked out
Tim Horton, which in her small town is the destination of choice for a treat.
Just wanted to mention how it all turned out.
Thanks and read your website every day
