In a question/answer from earlier today you mentioned an allocation in metals between bullion and stock (clarifying a response from yesterday). You do mention gold specifically today in part of your answer. Are your sentiments the same for silver (i.e., would you be able to suggest an asset allocation between silver and gold bullion and silver and gold stocks)? Or do you see silver and gold as very different commodities (recognizing silver has more industrial use as well as being a store of value)? Is there any point in holding both in bullion and/or stocks? Thanks again.
I am working on bringing my portforlio much more in-line with the 5i Model Portfolio.
I have no other exposure to the auto sector and am 31 so I don't have a real need for dividend income yet. Should I be taking a 5% position in Magna or a 5% position in Autocanada or would I be better off doing 2.5% in each. Total portfolio is approximately $100K.
Q: Symbol=VRE. Vanguard Canada FTSE CDN Capped REIT ETF. Contains 19 CDN REITs (RioCan, H&R, Calloway, Cominar, BPO, etc.). MER= 0.40%. Seems like a good way to get REIT diversity for reasonable cost. Previous 5i answers indicated that current REIT slump is due to "sector rotation" and that money may return looking for income. Would VRE be a good way to do this? Comments please. Additional words regarding Vanguard Canada ETFs also appreciated.
Thanks from IslandJohn.
Q: I was wondering about your opinion on PMG (Petrominerales). It is currently paying a 7.8% dividend. I have a small position in it now, and would likely average down a bit if you feel this stock is likely to return to the $10 range over the next year or so. Thanks!
Q: Hi Peter and 5iResearch Team,
I purchased Innovative Composite IC last year. Is there any hope for this company? It seemed like a good idea when I bought it, but has dropped to the bottom of the earth... its valuation anyway!! Thank you. Linda
Q: Hi Peter:
With some some new money to invest, would you chose GEI or DH for "total upside" in a rising rate enviroment. If the answer is "neither" what would your best Cdn suggestion be? This is in a well balanced portfolio. Your answers are much appreciated.
Ron
This is a question re: on of your reponses yesterday regarding how much of assets should be in Precious Metals. In your response, you stated that you were comfortable with up to 10%.
I wasn't clear if that 10% included Gold and Silver Bullion and Stocks or just the metals (i.e. the stocks would be a incremental percentage over the metals which, I agree, should be viewed as insurance).
Q: Re Bep.un.
RBC has made a pretty strong statement this AM re the outlook for this co. The reference is to little growth, and more problems. What is your opinion now Peter and good crew.
Q: Enb and trp. What small/ mid cap companies would benefit from the west to east pipelines reversal proposals? Maybe small oil companies that would be near the pipeline. Would they be selling at Brent or west Texas crude prices?
Also how about a ocean tanker Company's that would transport LNG and oil to Asia from west coast ports?
Q: I just got back from vacation and noticed that CPD has been hammered and also the yield is only showing as 4.3%, even at the lower price. Did this ETF reduce their payout?
Q: Looking for your favorite small cap oil (200-2000MM)company recommendations. Or do you think it is better to stick to bigger names? I like profitable, cheap, on the verge of paying dividends.
Q: Peter i have ZUT etf in my portfolio (BMO Utilities ETF). It seems to be a low at this stage and would seem to have already priced in the potential forthcoming increase in rates. Would it not be a time to be adding to this now?
