Q: This isn't a question, but a suggestion to those who are looking for much higher yield than treasury bills and government bonds with many of them trading at very low risk. The preferred side of split shares. There are several of them yielding anywhere from 4 to 6%. They are redeemable anywhere from one year to 6 years with a downside protection up to 100 % or more. Liquidity however is an issue with some of them. You just have to be selective.

Q: Hi Peter,
Any idea why the high volume of raging river (rrx) today? Was it perhaps insiders buying/selling?
What price would be a good entry point to buy back into this stock ?
Do you know of any potential catalysts that could send this back to new highs?
What would be a fair takeout price, if someone were to try and scoop them up and who are the likely suitors ?

Q: July 10th gold opened up at $18 and held onto most of its gains. Gold stocks did not participate. There was news on PLG and FVI. Did not seem negative but they both dropped substantially. Any reason why these two stocks would fall that far with gold going up?

On a different topic VCM and DWI look impressive. Would you give them a good rating?

Q: Hi Peter. I have been hearing rumors of a severe correction or even a crash of the markets. Last year in May, a friend of mine panicked and cashed in all his stocks and funds because of the same rumors at that time. It was obviously a huge mistake, given what the market has done in the past year. I know that no one can time the market with any real accuracy. However, I am getting a little nervous. Is it a good time to have more cash in my portfolio. In other words would you recommend selling stocks that have done really well in the last year in order to have the security of cash? Q: Hi 5i Team,

I read an article on Seeking Alpha today recommending a play on gold and silver via a closed-end fund called Central Fund of Canada (CEF). It is supposed to be trading at a 5% discount and that is meant to be unusual (but it happens from time to time).

Q: I was watching Fast Money Halftime last week in which they had invited the best performing fund manager for the last 12 months. His portfolio is based on insider buying (long) and selling (shorts). Which Canadian companies do you like that have also shown strong insider buying? Thanks.

Q: Petronova PNA;T A strategic review has been initiated as mgmt feels company is undervalued. In general, once a company announces such intentions, if long the stock, should one wait hold, sell? I had bot it for int'l exposure in oil exploration
and am thinking the story is over and it is time to move on.

Q: Hello to all ... in your most recent survey you asked some questions regarding paying a side bar fee to have you or Ryan comment on personnel portfolios. I am retiring in September and am relying on the 5i portfolios to generate a healthy income. RIF, LIF, TFSA and Cash accounts will comprise of my overall direction.
