Q: Best wishes to all, your family and friends. What does goodwill really mean on a balance sheet? Can any value be ascribed to it, and if so, how is it calculated?

Q: Could you disclose what 5iresearch staff allowed to invest in, or typically invested in if not in companies rated by 5iresearch?

Could you disclose in responses to company questions, whether the respondent holds any position long or short in the security being commented on? A number of the companies recommended, viewed negatively and discussed in general are not covered by 5iresearch, and not subject to your 'no conflict' policy.

Q: Hi Peter,
HCG, AYA, MG, KEY, ALA and CNR all have pulled back quite significantly. Is this a good entry point to start a new position? Should I be concerned with housing market, rising interest rates that will potentially hurt these stocks? Which one do you prefer the most from these 5 names? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Q: Appreciate valuable information Peter and colleagues. Just a comment about Vector Vest. My personal experience was that it was less useful than other sources of info. I dropped it when I encountered inaccurate information and I received a very inadequate explanation.

Q: Most of my investments are in SDRSP,RIF & TFSA accounts. I have started to build a trading account for dividend paying stocks in order to take advantage of the dividend tax credit. Currently my holdings are:
Aston Hill (AHF) 7%
BMO Eql Wgt Reit Index ETF (ZRE) 24%
Gamehost (GH) 21%
Ishares US hi Yld Bnd ETF (XHY) 26%
Valener (VNR) 20%
Cash 2%
Some of the percentages are high, but I prefer buying board lots. I have additional funds to put in which should reduce the percentages by half. I am ok with some risk. What would your suggestions be for adding to and/or changing the existing mix.

Q: I've held for a few yrs now: been going up like crazy: high debt., high PE, but high ROE of 108% (have they been buying back a lot of stock?). I've held as conservative play in my USD portfolio. Has it been going up because of dividend and considered safe play? I am thinking of selling at this price and holding the cash for an opportunity in the midst of this market correction?

Q: My mining sector holdings including Yamana and Teck are down but still make up 6% of my portfolio. I'm fairly diversified but very light on Healthcare. I like dividends with some growth but am not risk averse. I have about a half position of cash to invest. Should I top up the mining sector or should I spread out to healthcare? If healthcare, any suggestions would be appreciated.
