Q: I have a question about mutual funds. I am looking at allocating a small portion of my portfolio to a mutual fund that performed very well in the first 3 months of the year (up 50%) and was at an all time high before pulling back. It is my understanding that annual performance fees are approximately 20% of profits beyond the permanent high-water mark. If I invest in this find today, after it has had its large gain, will I be subject to paying the massive performance fee despite the fact that I did missed the massive move to the upside? And is my understanding correct in that this fund will only take a an annual performance fee if it increases the high-water mark that year? Thanks
Q: Hi Peter

Q: Hi Peter,
My portfolio is poorly diversified and I am working on trying to correct this. Can you give me a general guideline on what percentage you would allocate to each sector for a well balanced portfolio. thank you for a great service. Clare.

Q: Hi Guys, for a balance portfolio with a 5 year time frame, does trading BNS (2.5% weighting) or TD (3%) or POW (1%) for EFN make any sense? If so, should it be a full position?
thanks,
Jim

Q: Hi,
Great appearance on bnn!!
For a portfolio management approach I understand the importance of setting position limits being 5%, 10% and trimming positions if they breach a limit. However, holding a company for years can result in a position being 20% of a portfolio etc.
What argument can you make to sell or trim positions in a good company that pays a dividend of 4%+ but would be too large of a weighting your intended position limits.
Bottom line question: I know some people have a certain great stock that might be 20%+ in their portfolio. Those are difficult to sell/trim when they pay a nice dividend too.
Thanks

Q: Any comments or updates regarding the split? Continue to hold both until future numbers come out?
Q: I have a position in ARX that I have held for many years and is now down 8% excluding the dividend. 5i seems to really like WCP and I was wondering if I should switch out of ARX into WCP? Could you compare the the two? Is the switch worthwhile?
Q: I bought Enbridge Income (ENF) a few months back for income in my RSP. It has had nice capital gains since, and the dividend as a percentage of investment is obviously now lower. Do you see any advantage in taking the tax-free gains and moving to either ALA or IPL, which both pay a higher dividend rate. Any preference between ALA or IPL? I already hold Pembina in another RSP.
Thank-you

Q: Weird behavior of late all to the downside yet no news. Is this in anticipation of next week's expected results?
Q: Just a thank you to Peter for his very informative and clear Market Call session on BNN. Decided to buy some EFN as a result. Hope it raised the profile of 5i!
Q: Are there any analyst estimates on the impact of the Westeel acquisition on revenue and earnings for AFN. Thanks.
Q: I own Apple, Google, Constellation, and Enghouse but need another IT stock to replace OTC which I recently sold. Could you provide a list of 3 or 4 IT stocks, US and Canadian, with good growth potential for a 3-4 year hold.
Thanks!
