Q: I have a fairly large holding of O&G stocks and the recent sell off in the O&G sector have been devastating to my portfolio. However, I know (at least I think I know) which ones are resilient and can bounce back over time, except for one - DEE.

Right now I'm down over 40% on this name while all others have shown various degrees of recovery already, especially today. In fact DEE is the only O&G stock I own that is in the red for today.

Is DEE a lost cause and should be my first tax loss selling for 2014? Or should I at least wait for the Q3 results and the accompanying forward guidance to see if there is still a chance for a turn around.

Q: Hello 5i
The recent stock price decline has left me with a few positions underwater due to buy timing. In the context of a well diversified portfolio and holding all three names, would you please comment on adding to ET(Evertz) at this time as it has not really bounced back from the recent decline. Is there something to the lack of bounce? In comparison, would you consider adding to SYZ(Sylogist)or FSZ(Fiera Cap) ahead of ET?

Q: I asked an earlier question about Corus (CJR.B) because I was considering selling my Cargojet (CJT) to buy Corus. Cargojet has had a good run in the past two years but seems to be consolidating while its dividend (2.6%)remains flat. Do you think I am better to exchange my CJT for the slow growth but better dividend (4.4%)of Corus or hold on to the CJT in the hope of further price growth even without dividend growth? There are no tax implications. Thank you as always.

Q: My question is about portfolio diversification. Is there a dollar value of a portfolio in which you might invest more than one company per sector to reduce company risk while maintaining diversification? Thanks!

Q: I'm looking at ETFs for a "couch potato" approach to my RRSP acount so I can focus on my much larger non-registered trading account. I tend to follow the latter and forget about the RRSP account so it always underperforms. I want to have exposure to the S&P500 mainly for diversification and I'm looking at Vanguards ETF VFV. Do you think this a good fit or should I be looking at a different product(s)?

How will the planned changes in June 2015 by the TSX affect a typical Canadian investor with a portfolio of less than $1 million who trades equities about 10 to 20 times a month?

Reuters reported that the TMX "...wants to introduce a "long life" order type on both its main Toronto Stock Exchange and its sister venture exchange which will be executed ahead of other orders at the same price..."

Thank you in advance for helping clarify the impact, if any, that these changes will have on the average 5i member.

Q: General Trading question. I have been investing in stocks for only a couple of years and recently wanted to try out Trading however I have found that I am way too slow to make a decision. Some of my hesitation centers on how to read and understand the implications of a companies reports. For example a report saying revenue is up while profit is down to me should be a positive thing for a company. Also, the "street estimate" is only an estimate, while the company reported figures are factual. Would not a company who has improved revenue be worth more whether it was short of the "street" expectations or not. I realize you guys/gals are not traders but do the very quick traders trade on "any bad remark"

Q: I have been invited to attend a presentation by Raintree Financial Solutions ((Exempt Market Dealer) where Private Capital Markets Investing will be the main topic. Three companies will be profiled specifically, Enercapita Energy Trust,Equicapita and Solar Income Fund Inc.
I am interested in hearing what you think of this new category "Exempt Market Dealer".
Private capital investing seems to have been the domain of high net worth individuals therefore not available to small retail investors. Raintree claims that private investing adds diversification to a portfolio and is not as susceptible to downturns as we have experienced in the past few weeks. What would be your opinion?
Your view of the companies being profiled, if any, would also be much appreciated.

Q: I've been a very happy holder of this for 2 years. Just wondering: they announced plans for a spectacular new headquarters in Edmonton that will change the downtown landscape. Would the expenses of building this and the potential disruption of moving when it is finished have a materal effect on future earnings, even if just for a Quarter or two? If so, it could be a good time to add more if short-sighted investors sell on a couple soft quarters?

Q: I have a 5% position in this stock. has been slowly sliding down. Just to clarify the sale, if I hold till close I will receive $11.25/share plus special dividend? so if I hold till close I don't have to concern myself with current price?
