Q: Peter, at the beginning of January I will be adding 150% to my portfolio comprised mostly of 5i stocks and a couple of US ETF's. I am in line waiting for a review of my portfolio and in the meantime where would you suggest I park the cash? A selection of ETF's probably makes the most sense. Thanks.

Q: Hello Peter and team, all the best of the seasdon to you and thanks for all of your sage responses this past year!!

Chorus has been out of the news lately after their successful bout with AC. They pay a nice dividend and have a fair chunk of change on the books I understand. Do you think a special dividend is on the horizon and what is your overall view of the company, especially with dropping fuel prices.

Thank you
Jerry

Q: 5-year 7%-coupon debentures from GuestLogix started trading yesterday (GXI.DB). Already they have fallen to nearly 90 cents on the dollar, giving a yield to maturity of roughly 9.5%. Do you think that the risk associated with the creditworthiness of GXI is adequately compensated at 9.5% (+ the chance of much higher gains if the stock moves up significantly in the next 5 years) ? Thanks!

Q: The reaction of the market to Celgene and Gilead in the wake of ESRX withdrawing support for one of Gilead's products seems rather overdone. I have both of these stocks. is it an opportunity to add more?

Q: My question is about the net interest rate impact on both of these insurers, specifically whether the positive benefits associated with higher interest rates offset the negative benefits of higher interest rates. I know the positive benefits of higher interest rates on insurers are widely accepted (via contract liabilities), however, considering that both of these firms hold billions in debt securities (the bulk of general fund), isn't their likely to be a negative impact on the balance sheet and possibly net income? Perhaps the net income impact of higher rates is more than the downside of decreasing debt security value?

Q: Can you provide an update on your opinion of Enerplus? I have owned it since 2011 and have a significant unrealized loss. My question is should I sell for tax loss reasons (as I have a gain to offset) or just sell and get out altogether given its performance? The yield has been pushed up to 9.5% and I have 100% track record of incurring perm losses on stocks with yields that have risen above 10%. I have enough allocation in the O&G sector and would like to allocate to a mining/materials ETF (any recommendations?) where I have very little in that sector. Thanks again and enjoy the holiday break! Regards - John

The 5i response of Advantage AAV) convertibles being OK
is questionable as the bonds redeem on Jan 31/15 and trade at the redemption price. Publish at your discretion.

Q: Thanks for great advice!
Please comment on CKI (Clarke) I have read your previous commnents and would like to know what you think of this as an investment compan y... the numbers look too good, but it is so thinly traded.... having read the financial statements, do you trust the management and the veracity of reporting? why is it not traded more heavily? would putting 1000 shares into be too great a risk?
Thanks
