Q: I have spent a lot of time over the last 25 years learning about technical analysis and have actively traded many individual stocks and commodities based on how I interpret the charts for them. I have been reading about sector rotation at different times of the economic cycle and seasonal trading. My question is:
What ETF's traded on the Canadian exchanges would you suggest for the following sectors. I know that we should invest outside of Canada but I have always traded Canadian. Thanks for your answer. I really enjoy the site.
Consumer Discretion
Consumer Staples
Energy
Financials
Health
Income Trusts
Industrials
Information Technology
Materials
Telecommunications
Utilities
Can you please offer any other suggestions to help me break down the larger sectors into more focused ones. I am just introducing myself to ETF trading and want to have a good starting point.

Q: I purchased this for my RRSP last June at a cost of $9.00 on the recommendation from a guest pick on BNN, well before I became a member of 5I. It represents 2% currently of my RRSP, however I do have other holdings cpg,ipl,cnq,wcp.
I have reviewed your comments today, on bxe, and with Orange capital at 14.7% and Seth A. at 11.38% or in excess of 26% between the two, I am wondering if I should seriously consider doubling down to average my cost.
What are your thoughts and or suggestions.

Q: I am wondering if I should sell TD and buy CXI but CXI is hitting a new high should I wait until it come down a bit in price? This would be in my TSFA. I currently own T , AYA , TRP , WCP in equal weight.

I think it is important to classify holdings by segment because holdings in the same segment respond to the same drivers; this in turn gives us an additional picture of our exposure to a segment.
Let's agree on the following 11 segments: consumer discretionary, consumer staples, energy, financials, health care, industrials, info tech, materials, real estate, telecoms, utilities.
How would you classify CCL Industries, CNR (transport), Stantec (engineering), Alimentation Couche Tard, Dollarama, Boyd Income Group, Cineplex, First Service, Altagas (utilities or energy), Clearwater Seafoods, MTY Foods, Badger Daylighting, Progressive Waste.

In my TFSA I have ATD, XTC, BIN, QST, SGY. I would like to add one more and I need to choose between ESL, SJ, SCU, HCG because I have equal weights in all of these in other accounts and I don't want to add another stock.

Q: I made an error and have both Ford and GM in an RSP. I would like to sell one or both to free up some US cash. Each would incur a small loss.

Which one of Ford or GM would you sell? Perhaps both? In the alternate would you simply reduce each one and keep some of each? (The only other industry exposure I have is a small position in Martinrea)
