Q: When you close out a position, in this case Surge, do you still factor in the loss to the portfolio since inception. I presume that is the case.

Q: I have a little bit of MKP and I noticed that it has been in consistent price range for a long time. It has a nice dividend 8.3%. Do you think it is a good candidate for a full position for someone just looking for income?
Thanks,
Charlie

Q: Just wanted to get your thoughts on Micron (mu) after their latest results. As it is a high beta stock I have a very small portion of it in my portfolio (less than half a percent).
I have owned it for less than a year and I am about even in it (with the U.S. dollar exchange).
Given their lower future earnings estimate I was considering getting out of it and rotating into a different high beta Canadian stock. If so, I was considering PHM or if you could recommend something else.
Thanks!

Q: Hi Peter,
At $1.80 do you see RFC as being a decent 'buy and forget' addition to a portfolio? Is there a chance it ceases to exist if the downturn persists for another year or two?
Can you comment on what Bloomberg shows 2015 EPS looking like?
Thanks!
Mike

Q: Sorry for the unclear question earlier. Perhaps you could ignore or not publish it. I understand that LIM is doing the restructuring. How will this impact LIF? Is it worth keeping the royalty?
Q: Please recommend three US blue chip stocks for med and long term hold.
Thank you.

Q: Where does one find your "suggested sites" list? Thanks
Q: Do you think Russell metals would be good to add to a portfolio? It has a strong dividend and is close to a 52week low. Over the past five years the stock price has stayed relatively tight to the current price. Is there much upside to the current stock price and will the dividend remain strong. Thanks.
Q: To answer Mike's question of April 2 concerning ex-dividend dates I use this web address: http://tsx.exdividend.ca as a source of upcoming ex-dividend dates for all the tsx and/or for tsx 60. Included useful information are date, yield, frequency and pay-out ratio. Also the TSX website has a new tab called Dividends where next dividend date is indicated plus all past dividends important dates.

Q: I received a lump sum and for a short time I would like to put the funds into some stable stocks who pay a quarterly dividend and who's X dividend date is from now until the end of April. I would like an annual yield of 3.5 - 8%. I will then bleed the money out into a dividend growth model of 5i stocks. I have looked at 28 stocks and only found 2 Ry 4/21 & pot 4/9 x dates. The stocks I have checked are Ala, bus,td, bce, enb, xtc, and, ipl, key, pki, ppl, stn, vet, ten, win, syz, ago, cox, bin, dh, slf, wsp, t, wsp, van, tcp. Thank you very much, your site has incredibly valuable information which I check each day. mike
Q: With the unfortunate passing of the ceo any implications for the company? As he was so well respected do you think the company would be a takeover target.
Q: Peter .. is this the proper symbol ?? Also the selling of Surge ...does this mean you have lost all confidence in the bounceback or is the timeframe for recovery to long.
Q: I was eyeing PZA when they recently issued a bought deal at $15, and am now even more interested as it has fallen to about $14. What is your opinion of PZA, why would it drop so much from the recent offer price, and is the distribution stable? This would be bought for income in an RSP.
Thank-you, Grant

Q: You say BCE,Telus, and A.Couche-Tard (ATD,B) are not rated. Why not
rate them? And, why not use only rated stocks for the Model Portfolios?
In addition, Why are you not replacing a A-rated stock with another A-rated stock in the Model Portfolios? Thus, why are you changing the value of the Model Portfolio?

Q: How should I approach buying the small caps in your new growth portfolio if they've recently taken a big run? Two of the four I want to purchase have recently jumped. Com Dev is up 8% in two days and DRT is up too. Is it best to just get in now or wait for a pull back?
Also, is IT (from your growth portfolio) a good alternative to AYA? Would I be safe to buy a full position in it or would half be better?

Q: Just a comment to Raymond re the US tax package - if you are a Canadian resident and citizen with BIP in a taxable account, you should have a T5013 for the LP to use for Canadian taxes. You can disregard the US tax package, unless you happen to be a US citizen. Check the Brookfield tax info website included with the US package.
Q: I have a general question regarding the number of positions you suggest holding in a portfolio. With $50K I consider 12-13 positions as adequate. 15 to 16 positions for a $100K portfolio, and 20-22 positions for a $200K portfolio. Is this reasonable? Also how many positions would you suggest holding for portfolios of $400k, $600K and $800? Thanks for you help.
Q: First off, like so many other members I would like to thank you for your continued excellent service and the addition of your Growth Portfolio.
My question concerns my RESP. I currently have 3 postions in equal weights namely, Pembina, McDonald Detwieller and WSP Global. I have concerns regarding Pembina going forward as I am beginning to draw down on this account. Would you endorse a switch to ATD.B , stand pat or make any other recommendation?.
Thank you
Marty
