Q: 5i Research Answer:

We are making some improvements later this year with a server upgrade. We will be adding the ability to 'favourite' questions, and (most likely) allow for Members to sign up for emails on ANY question that is asked on a certain group of companies they would like to follow. This we expect to save us lots of time.

--------------

Question:

Have you ever considered creating a 5I membership forum for members to discuss/debate stock holdings? There are some savvy subscribers here no doubt where it would be beneficial to hear some continued feedback on stocks bouncing ideas/thoughts etc; back n’ forth per your question/answer section, call it an added 5I advantage within your growing readership. Less experienced investors could sit back and observe taking notes/pointers – a learning forum if you may. Of course, having it closely monitored by Mr. Hodson and the 5I team to answer/clarify pertinent queries on stocks would be the main root of creating such a forum. There seems to be a short term outlook by some members on here as is evident by the barrage of questions on stocks on a weekly sometimes daily basis, there seems to be many repetitive questions on the favorite core of stocks with a short term focus which isn’t what 5i sets forth. I’m sure a forum like this might break away some of 5I’s time to give us more updated reports and perhaps blast out by mass email when a company reports on a quarterly basis/earnings etc; that you know will bombard with questions (why not hit many members with one mass email?). I’m sure there wouldn’t be a whole lot of policing to enforce on a forum with certain privileges revoked if the forum got out of hand as this seems like head and shoulders above the type of audience that plague other investing sites. I can’t be the only one to pose this question, your thoughts along this avenue would be appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:

Thank you. We have considered this extensively, and have not ruled it out. However it is not planned at this time. We are still of the view that fewer email blasts are better than many. We are striving for a long term focus, and a quarterly earnings blast may distract from the long term view.

--------------

Above is what I wrote into 5i on March 25, 2014 and got an answer back (of course). My thoughts still have not changed today a year+ later. Having a subscriber based forum would be a great addition at 5i to allow savvy subscribers (and the novice) to interact with each other etc; I seriously hope 5i will consider going down this avenue in the future. I think it would create great value to subscribers. Evaluating the software out there in creating such a forum environment would be most beneficial in looking into striving to create “the” top notch investment site per the long term big picture. Food for thought. Regards, Evan

Q: Currently I have invested in the 3 model portfolios of yours & the Money Saver model Portfolio. Thanks, they are doing well from a risk reward view point. I would like to have exposure to a Large Cap international resource stock. Would this be an opportune time in the cycle to get into the sector? If so, would you prefer Rio Tinto over BHP?

Q: Hi Team,
I own Bip.un as well as some Gif.un for infrastructure exposure (div & growth). Gif.un has performed very poorly since inception and bip.un has been great. I was going to add to my bip.un holdings at this level for a long-term hold (3-5 years) and sell my gif.un to fund it. what do you think of that strategy? stay with winner and sell the loser...
Thank you

Q: Hi,
I own CSE at $4.05 Do you guys think it's a buy sell or hold at today's level? I don't mind doubling down if you think they can sustain the dividend and the price can gradually come back. Or, do you think the downside risk of losing the Bristol water appeal could drag the share price lower if it's not already baked in?

Thank you

Q: Precious metals represents 3.5% of my portfolio, and looking to take this to 4.5-5% in anticipation of eventual inflation. I currently have G, AEM and SLW at 1, 1.5 and 1% respectively. After the last quarter, my preference would be to add to AEM as the best performer, but I already hold more of it. Should I increase AEM anyway, or bump up G to keep levels even?

Related, should I increase my SLW, open a position in SSO, or switch SLW to SSO? This is a favorite of Jamie Carrasco on BNN. Which gives better leverage to the price of silver without risking fallout from interest rates due to debt?

Your thoughts are much appreciated.

Q: I have held LIF for a while, and with yesterday's jump, am back to about even on it. Do you have any idea why the stock price increase? This was bought for income and was a move to diversify from some of my financials/pipes. Would you continue to hold, or take advantage of the current price and move on?

Thank you

Q: Mr.Hodson, among these four stocks with rise of share price indicated for the past year, which one would you buy for the coming 52 weeks ?

GIB.A (50%)
SJ (67%)
CSU (116%)
AYA (340%)

Should you think this would be of interest for other members, I have no objection that your answer be viewed by all.

Q: There continues to be lots of insider buying especially from the ceo How important does 5i consider this to be and does 5i know how many shares insiders currently own. I have had some luck with surge. I bought a half position 2.5% (before you sold it) that has now grown to 4%. Would you trim it back to a half position. I also own a 3% position in BDI and 3% in RBN.UN ( fairly oil and gas heavy closed end mutual fund) in the oil sector. I was thinking of WCP if I trim SGY.

Thanks Blake
