Q: I own Bell Aliant (BA) shares but have never been involved with a a company that has been taken over before. BCE is said to be offering $31.00 per share in cash and/or BCE shares but I see that BA is trading above that. How does one go about evaluating an offer such as this? As this is in a taxable account what will the tax consequences be - should I expect BCE or BA to provide any information of guidance on the taxation issue?
Thanks for your invaluable advice.

Q: Good afternoon
GlaxoSmithKline PLC GSK.US suddenly dropped over 5% today. Is there any particular reason for this? Anything to do with bribery scandal in China?
I bought 100 shares a few years ago and they now represent 1.2% of our joint registered portfolios. There hasn't been much growth but I can't complain because I initially bought them for dividend, which at the time was 5.3%. I've been watching just recently, because I would like to invest in a company that has equally good dividends with better growth. I would have been slightly ahead of the game if I had acted yesterday, but I am in a loss position at the moment.
I'm trying to decide if I should hang on for a while to let the price recover and see if I can break even or make a modest profit, or whether it is just time wasted while I can be doing better elsewhere.
I don't hold any other any other Pharma shares.

Q: Hi Peter and team, this question is regarding the article you wrote on concentration. I have a high concentration of XTC (bought at 3.30) and FSV (bought at 33.60), respectively about 15 and 20 percent of the portfolio. I am quite happy with the results, and am of two minds on whether to continue holding or take profits.
I don't feel that either company has a dominant market position even though they are both growing nicely. Is it reasonable to hold XTC looking for a 5 bagger and FSV looking for a 2-3 bagger? I have already taken some profits on both, but am wishing I had let my winners run further. I have probably a 25 year time horizon minimum before I draw down on my portfolio. You have mentioned some other high growth names that are appealing, and I am considering allocating profits to those names. Any thoughts?

Also, I believe market orders go before limit orders, and the case where a broker is executing both sides of the order (crosses). Publish at your discretion.

Q: Peter & Team, can you obtain any broker insights into 4% price rise in IPL today? Very big move for this stock and it is outperforming the sector today by about 4 times. Thank you, Keith
Q: Re SGY - I've heard it said Surge is similar to an early stage Crescent Point story as they are intending to acquire and build out substantial resources. Do you agree with this and if so, do you have any timeline guesstimates that might indicate how long would be an appropriate hold period, in order to let them work their plan and potentially see much higher share price? Thanks
Q: Hi
I own BA and I heard on BNN that they are being bought out by BCE at $31.00. I've never experienced a takeover, but do my shares automatically sell out at $31.00 or do they provide an opportunity to secure shares in BCE?
Your help is appreciated.

Q: Peter
I have $55,000 in Bell Alliant(BA), $80,000 in B.C.E. and $30,000 in Telus which is approximately 8.5% of the equity portion of my portfolio . I will incur approximately a $10,000 capital gain if I sell Bell Alliant as opposed to exchanging shares for B.C.E. as per recent proposal. Alternatively, if I sold Bell Alliant, I could put the funds into Telus to provide more balance. What are your thoughts on this? Is 8.5% too high a concentration in telecommunications, given our present government's continuous threat to shakeup or shakedown the industry?

Q: re: WOW!!!! & DASTY - Dassault Systeme A
Been watching the digital printer industry as I think eventually everyone will have one of these things.
Today... DASTY down almost 50% from $125.54 - $63.43. Do you know what's going on here?
Thanks for all you do

Q: Hello folks. I was wondering what your thoughts are on the new Horizons ETF(HOG). It has very low volume but is well diversified in the sector. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Q: Hi, Superior Plus shares have been week over past 2 weeks. Even on days when markets have been strong, like yesterday July 22, shares have drifted lower, now about $13.48 down from a high of $14.25. Do you see share price recovery in near term? What are your expectations of quarterly results due on Aug 6? Thanks

Q: Hi Peter, PJC.A; Jean Coutu has dropped quite steadily in the past 6 weeks. This stock has had a great multi-year run. Do you like it from here or do you expect more selling?
Q: Hi, I just sold Intel with a 38% upside and am thinking about buying XLK for my tech exposure. What do you think about this EFT. Jeff
Q: Hi
Please give your comments on TLF.un.
What do you think of it as an investment for income and growth in a taxable account. Are you still unhappy with the fees?
Are the fees subtracted before the yield is shown? (6.4percent in globe and mail today) Thanks!

Q: Good Afternoon Peter and Team,
Just read a blog on Mawer Investment Management's site which discusses "10 Ways That Investors Can Avoid Being Duped". Link is below:
http://www.mawer.com/knowledge-centre/mawer-blog/fraudster-alert-10-ways-investors-can-avoid-being-duped/
I suppose one of the best ways to help avoid being duped is to keep your 5i Membership up to date and pay very close attention to what Peter and/or Ryan have to say about a particular company before you purchase.
Just thought I would share this with other members. Thanks, DL

Q: Good day 5i Team,
Within context of an RESP where the value does not yet facilitate self direction, could you advise of a decent etf that is most closely aligned with the recommended holdings of the model portfolio. We are looking at a 15 yr horizon, and would like moderate risk within the tax sheltered account.
Thanks,
Eric
