Q: Hey guys was wondering your thoughts on cirrus logic (crus) I'm down about 25%on it and was alson wondering if you think it's a buy hold or sell thanks
Q: Dear 5IResearch,
Having experienced some unprofitable results for the past few summers, I am now going to re-balance my portfolio, away from its total reliance on US equities, to include some Canadian names and then to weld it shut until October.
Currently my portfolio is 42% Berkeley Hathaway (BRK.B), 15% Wall Street bank (GS), 15% High-end US housing (PHM & DHI), 7% US Railroad (CSX), 7% Technology (GOOG or MSFT, but not AAPL) and 8-10% Cdn hedged index on SP500 (XSP)
I propose to reduce investment in GS, CSX, Technology and SP500, in favour of some good Canadian names.
My short list for these is:
Northland Power (NPI),
Agrium (AGU) or Potash (POT),
Pembina Pipelined (PPL) or Inter pipeline (IPL.UN),
Gold bullion (CEF.A),
and a western Canadian Reit (to be selected)
In the Fall, I expect to go back to a broad perspective of the entire North American economy, at large, hoping that Obama stops stalling the pipeline, by then. The asset allocation will likely be adjusted, to cope with the October 2013 - A.pril 2014 period.
Can you please comment on my proposed purchases of Canadian stocks? Danger signs would be appreciated.
Have a good summer.

Q: Hi 5i,
I've got a 4% holding in HUZ (Horizon's silver ETF) and 2% in SLW (Silver Wheaton). As sliver slipped, they're down 20%. Would you suggest holding or selling one/both? Thanks,

Q: Hi Peter & 5i: I see that RBC Capital upgraded National Bank (NA) a few days ago, from "sector perform" to "outperform" and raised its target price to $84. Is there any special significance to one of the big six banks issuing a favourable report and upgrade on one of its main peers/competitors? Or do you see it as on a par with pretty much any analyst's upgrade of any kind of company.
Q: Can you tell me about ETC as compared to HCG. Do you like both, one, or neither at current prices? Thanks.
Q: Hammond (HPS.A) has dropped considerably since lightly decresed earnings a couple of days ago. Is this a market reaction to the weak quarter (seems a tad muchof a reaction) or is the higher volume just somebody of size pulling out? Also, what is your opinion of future prospects given these results.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Q: Would you consider Citadel Income Fund (CTF.UN) as a reasonably safe place to park money with a 9.21 % dividend yield rather than bonds or money market funds. Thanks, Bill
Q: An analyst on BNN said that CNL and RMX follow a similar strategy to Yamana with small tuck-in acquisitions and do not bet the bank on large projects. He was very high on both stocks. Do you have a view on either of these names? Many thanks, Nancy
Q: Peter,
I would like to diversify from all my Canadian oil because of the discount to WTI. I have very small positions in CNE & PMG now, both of which have corrected quite severely. Your thoughts on adding to them please?

Q: CSS - Contrans - why was it downgraded by so many banks?
Tks.
Tks.
Q: I have insufficient exposure to the US market and was looking at a few ETFs. Thoughts on VCR & VXF?
Q: Hi Peter and 5i: Can you please explain the difference between "Floating Shares" and "Shares Outstanding" and the potential significance of it for an investor looking at a stock. I've noticed the difference is sometimes quite large. For example with Enghouse (ESL), FS is 17.5 million but SO is nearly 26 million, according to my discount broker's site. Maybe not a lot of shares in absolute numbers relative to some companies but proportionally it seems like a lot. Thanks, as always.
Q: Our portfolio is invested as follows - Oil/gas,five, 16.3%, Pipelines, four, 16.6%, Banks, five, 16.8%, Electric, four, 10%, Reits, five, 10.6%, Tele, three, 8.8%, Commodities, two, 3.8%, Industry, three, 6.7%, Misc(PWF, ENF)4.3%, Bond 6%. All are Canadian except one US railroad. We depend on the dividends for half our income. Any thoughts on the spread, and where to add an additional 10% we have in cash?
Q: I'm wondering if you plan to do a report on Whitecap Resources (WCP). What are the strengths/weaknesses, how volatile is it, and is a "buy" at current prices (around $10).
Thanks!
Thanks!
Q: I think PGF was heavily into Natural Gas properties at one time.
If true is it still?

Q: Yikes. Contrans (CSS) is down significantly today on triple the average volume, and I'm down over 18% in that stock alone. Will it recover in the near term or should I sell now and swallow the losses? TFSA so no tax loss advantage. I realize the stock is cyclical, but WOW. Also, does the increased volume and slight uptick in Amaya (AYA) give us some indication of what their numbers will be on Monday? Thanks,
Q: I have a question about FirstService Corporation
The quarterly results for fsv are out today. The market seems disappointed. How does 5i feels about the quarterly report?
Thanks

Q: I would like your opinion on Silver Standard (SSO) and the silver market in general.
Q: Hello Peter and the 5i Team,
My wife and I are in a fortunate position to have stable defined-benefit pension plans, but likely have been too conservative in our investing by maintaining a 60-40 weighting of stocks to fixed-income. We were looking at our large holding of the CLF ETF, and calculated an annualized return of just 2.45%. My question is this: What low-volatility equity/equities would you purchase if the CLF shares were sold? I was looking at your recent article that discussed DOL, GS, NWC, NCC.A and ADW.A, but perhaps there are others you could recommend. Love your service; wish I had joined earlier!
