Q: Hello - I have been a long term holder of Power Corp(POW) for 29 years. There has be no dividend increase in many years and the share price is essentially flat.I have always appreciated the financial prudence of this group but one can only hold for so long.Is it time to bail on this stock? Joe

Q: Good day! I have owned PPL (Pembina Pipeline) for a few years, having bought in when he dividend rate was much higher. As a dividend investor (usually targeting a minimum of 5% or more dividend returns) I subscribe to the theory that capital appreciation runs hand-in-hand with “somewhat” higher dividends – and yes I am aware of a whole mess of caveats with that statement, which hopefully I take fully into consideration. I do consider beta, historical performance of dividends in a “crash” (i.e 2008), and also look for the “moat” or recession proof aspect – amongst other things such as ROE, payout ratios, cash balances, and such. I do look at growth, but a sustainable dividend stream is the primary focus.
That being said as a background, I can see PPL has grown, and projects on the go indicate future increased cash flow, and then assumedly higher dividends. My question pertains to how long I should wait for the dividend rate to go back to the 5 or 6 percent payout. I am unable to get a clear picture from their documentation as to the timeframe of the increased cash flow. Are you able to discern when we should expect the increased cash flow - and matching dividend adjustments - and can you suggest at what point I might consider moving my cash elsewhere (i.e another payer in the 6% - 7% range - i.e such as RSI, STB, MRG.UN, HLP.UN - just for some examples)?

Q: WATD'B appears to be a good play on EU recovery. I like the fact they have purchased gas stations and are looking to create convenience stores similar to what we now have in North America.
I believe this ai already built into stock price.
If you believe it is a good stock...should I buy on pullback or current price. Any other concerns or comments appreciated. Thanks Gloria

Q: REally enjoyed PEter on BNN yesterday and paid attention to the comments about selling - that is when not sell. My question is when is the right time to sell? No stock is likely good to keep forever as there are simply always better opportunities at some point. So, yes, when then should I sell a holding?

Q: I consider myself to be an investor, rather than a trader; my time horizon for any stock purchase is 3 years or more. However, with the recent volatility in the markets I am tempted to hedge a small part of my portfolio with hedge ETFs such as HIX and HIU. Since this is new territory for me I am calling on your expertise to answer a few questions: do you recommend hedging; if so, what percentage of a portfolio do you recommend should be hedged; to use HIU and HIX properly would I need to treat them as short term trades? Since the whole prospect of hedging appears to me to be trading, which I am not keen on for myself, I am very hesitant to employ a hedging strategy.

Q: Thank you for your recent response to my question concerning ETFs for international and emerging market exposure. However the thrust of my question related to those funds employing fundamental as opposed to traditional indexing and I'm not sure that your response focused upon the former category. Please clarify.
