Q: My mother in law a recent widow and has no investment experience wants to invest the total amounts she has (Cash $400 K, TFSA $62K and a RIF of $285K) into Harris Bond Funds.
She going to be 80. Her monthly income consists of CPP, OAS (for now may be clawed back next year) and 2 indexed pensions hers (that is small) and his which is $2,300.00 per month and a RIF.
I can not see the point of paying the Investment Management fees to do this, where an ETF can get you the same thing.
I would like to see her invest in the model port.
Do you see a problem in my thinking?
Thanks for your time
Mike

Q: Can we get an update on your views of TOL-US.
Q: Peter:
Caldwell Partners (TSX: CWL) released Q4 results and except for one-time charges the results were strong. More importantly management seemed very bullish on the outlook for 2014 insomuch they raised the quarterly dividend rate. For small cap that raises its dividend rate isn't that very positive signal on what is come as to future in earnings in 2014?

Q: I have only owned GIB for a few months and am not unhappy with it. However, you keep speaking glowingly of SYZ (and it pays a dividend, which is always nice) Would you consider it overlap to own both companies and if so, would you sell GIB to buy SYZ? I am generally a patient investor with a long time frame.
Thanks for your great service!

Q: I know I'm giving up a little yield but would you endorse a switch from HR.UN to Fiera Capital? I just don't see much upside in HR unless their Q3 numbers surprise.
Q: As an investor who is attempting to build a long term portfolio with an emphasis on growth + secondary consideration for future dividend yield, who do you favor between STN vs ESL? STN's more costly shares are a drawback but how real is the risk of ESL CEO Mr. Sadler moving on to other ventures given recent ESL success?
Much thanks for great insight..

Q: Would you please recommend a basket of dividend paying stocks to replace my Sentry Canadian Income mutual fund . Thanx Robbie
Q: GS
What do you think of the recent increase in stock price. In the last 3 months I have made a nice 10% profit with the special dividend issued in September, should I exit now or is this a long term hold.

Q: Not so much a question as a note about forum etiquette, using LARGE CAPS to pose a question is like shouting at somebody, and nobody really needs to shout.
