Q: New Portfolio; I'm thinking of setting up a portfolio of BMO etf's and would like your opinion. I'm thinking of 20% weightings for each etf. 1. For banks/financials: ZEB (Equal Weight Banks) or ZWB (Covered Call Banks) 2. For oil/gas/energy; ZJN (Junior Gas) and ZJO (Junior Oil) or ZEO (Equal Weight Oil & Gas). 3. Utilities/communications: ZWU (Covered Call Utilities) 4. Industrials; ZIN (Equal Weight Industrials), 5. Add an international etf, such as ZGI (Global Infrastructure) or a more broad etf such as ZDM (International Equity) or something similar. What do you think of this combination? The main objective is growth for 2-5 years to give my portfolio a boost in terms of capital gain. It doesn't have be BMO etf's. (In another portfolio I would have USA etf's and equities.)

Q: My no-so-smart advisor (whom I'm leaving) got me to buy $115K worth of US stocks for my Can. open/non-registered account. (At the time, I didn't know any better.)The $115K is 30% of my open account. In addition, he sold me about $30K of US stocks for my RSP; the balance being Can. stocks. This is the opposite of what should be. Can. stocks belong in the open account, to be able to take advantage of the dividend tax credit. Some of the US stocks are "keepers"; good companies I'd like to continue to own, such as AT&T, Pepsico, GE, etc. The question is what to do now? Just sell and buy Can. stocks for the open account, and US stocks for the RSP?

Q: I have owned BELLUS Health, Inc. (BLU.TO) for several years and has not done to well until this year. It is up 180% since the January and want your opinion if there is future potential for BLU or would this be a good time to get out?

Q: Hi guys, I'm a new member and a rookie investor and so far, love the question feature and the overall site!

I'm building a buy & hold dividends US/Canadian portfolio in my RRSP and I am looking for suggestion for 1 or 2 Canadian dividends company for a long term perspective (5 years and more) to complete the portfolio, here are my holdings so far:

US: KO, JNJ, MDT, PG, GSK and V.

Ca: BNS, FN, RY, TD, TGL and TBE

I plan to add 1k every month into the smallest holding in the portefolio regardless of market. Would however switch and buy into a stock if there is a pullback.

Feel free to comment on the US perspective as well and the overall portfolio.

Thanks again for your reply on AAPL and BKE. Lately, many of the energy stocks have been moving higher. Is this because of the IRAG situation? If so, any idea why Spartan Energy (SPE on Vanc)has not moved higher with the energy sector? Also, i am thinking of adding suncor to my existing position, but technically it looks over bought. In addition to your recommended growth and income portfolios, i like to keep a portion of my TFSA dedicated to a basket of 4 or 5 value plays that have the potential to recover in the 12-18 month time frame. Are there any names out there that you would recommend. I am currently looking at NCR but would appreciate any others outside of the resources area.

Q: I would appreciate your opinion on PID versus PFM. 3 & 5 years performance as well as sharp ratio is much better for PFM than PID while standard deviation for PFM is lower. So don't understand why morning star is giving PID 5* rating while PFM has only 3* rating. Am I missing something? would you have a better alternative to these two?

Q: I am considering selling TD Bank and buying either Bank of Nova Scotia or Capital Power CPX. TD has had a good run and I think BNS may provide more upside over the next 2 to 3 years. I also like Capital Power for it's 4.8% dividend and it's growth prospects over the next few years. For capital growth potential and dividend growth which would you prefer between BNS and CPX?

Q: Hi 5i team;

I am reviewing my self directed investment accounts, 2 tfsa and 2 non registered with a total of 180k. Should I look at them as separate portfolios and weigh them accordingly (5%) or look at them as one?
I have 29 Canadian and 13 U.S. stocks within the 4 accounts, my top 6 holdings represent 25% and the balance averages 2% each. The majority of the Canadian stocks are "5i" approved!
