Q: I am wondering why the preferred shares of Fortis are trending down in price. Fortis, common shares (FTS) have a flat trend line, however, its FTS.PR.G preferred share price is trending down, despite an annual yield of 5.2%. I have not been able to discover why this downward trend is occurring. Do you have any thoughts on why this is happening? Thanks … Cal Chapman

Q: Hi Peter,
What do you think of KCG at this time. It has taken a huge trading loss and seems like it has bottomed out. Plus there is also a rumour of a takeover. I also see a net cash (less debt) of about 1.9B as per Yahoo. What are your thoughts on this?

Q: Thoughts on the latest target price upgrades on RIM (NB and CIBC)? Is there anything that can really substantiate their views?
Q: Hi Peter, Leon's taking over The Brick. Sounds good - gobbling up your main competitor. Are you not a little wary that (a) Leon's don't have much experience digesting anything nearly as big; (b) leaving things more or less as it is sounds like the lack of a strategic plan. There is a Brick within sight of the Leon's where I live. Don't make sense. There are big differences culturally and in store-size. Maybe they are going to change stores but are too nice to tell us? Carefully thought out take-overs can still go awry (e.g. Thompson- Reutors). Please tell me I'm worrying unnecessarily. Henry
Q: Why are so many "good" companies looking to raise cash through new preferred shares or more common shares. I have received a number of notices in the past few weeks from quality REITS and this morning one from Emera and Endbridge.

Q: My question concerns PTA on the TSX venture exchange. It is located in Columbia, where they predict exiting 2012 with 5000-6000 barrels per day. They have good management, just had an oil strike for 3700 bl per day that they get 50% of.The float seems a bit high at more than 500000 shares plus warrants.Your comments positive & negative would be appreciated. The recommendations on it are all buys.

Q: Hi 5i. I have a question about the metrics of ENB (Enbridge). Everyone, including you, seem to think this is a good buy. But its P/E is over 48 and its PEG is over 2. Don't these indicate it is greatly overpriced?

Q: Peter, based on your review of HLF (Highliner Foods) I purchased shares which have done quite well. I noticed that the P/E for this stock is 224! I also noticed that the difference between the trailing P/E and forward P/E differs by more than an order of magnitude. The forward looking P/E is 9. I'm wondering if you can explain why there is such a large difference between the two numbers and how I should interpret this as a shareholder.
