Q: Good morning 5i, may I have your opinion on investing in SAN, Banco Santander, for income and growth after the Scottish referendum. How risky is it now compared to the times of the first two questions in 2012 and 2013. Is it too risky for a RRIF? Thank you

Q: I am looking to add to my small, initial $10,000, TFSA. It presently has 4 stocks in it BDT (32%), BEP.UN (12%), CF (45%)and ESN (10%). The portfolio is up 20%.
I am looking to add $5-10,000 between now and the end of the year and would appreciate suggestions on what to add to the mix?
Thanks for the help!
Ken

Q: CSS/TFI What do you think of the TFI extension announced today. I found it notable that Contrans approached TransForce about the selling of the Co.
Q: Hi 5i,
This is in response to Tony's query re: the "old", or "basic" Globeinvestor portfolio tracker. I use this free service and as I receive confirmation of my DRIP I go to the Portfolio Menu, Stocks, Record Buy/Sell and record the DRIP as a stock buy. Globeinvestor will have already added the cash value of the dividend to my cash balance. It is moderately cumbersome but does work; the biggest caveat is that often/frequently the cash balances shown becomes hugely inaccurate. I have seen my cash balance in a portfolio change by as much as $1500 after processing a single share purchase from a DRIP. I'm not too sure what their issue is beyond trying to goad me into buying the premium service, but it is annoying. Nonetheless, I can track all of my accounts easily and reasonably accurately using the free Globeinvestor service. I guess my question would be: is the Globeinvestor Premium service worth the money and/or is Morningstar a better, more functional option? I, too, would like to hear other members' thoughts.....
Cheers,
Mike

Q: Hello 5i team and other fellow members,
Do you know of any website where I could enter my portfolio and follow each holding's progression including dividends. I'm currently using the old Globe portfolio service but it does not include dividends; I have to dig them up individually and record them in a separate worksheet. Globe unlimited would do this at a cost of $20/month.
I welcome your suggestions,
Tony

Q: Sometimes we investors need to be reminded why we invest for the long term and avoid the temptation to trade in and out. John Heinzl in the Sept.17 Report on Business gives a perfect example to validate this philosophy: "If you had bought 100 shares of TD at the start of 1983 and never purchased another share, today – thanks to stock splits – you would have 2,400 shares. What’s more, those shares would be spinning out annual dividend income of $4,512 – more than the $4,000 cost of those original 100 shares."
You could probably replicate this example with many others. What he doesn't specify is the value of the original $4000 is now $137,000. Try matching that return with any piece of real estate in Canada. The full article is here:

Q: Contrans CSS extended offer from transforce to October 20. Reaffirming they will not raise their offer and the deal will not be done if shareholders do not tender. Do you believe they will not raise the offer?
Q: Peter et al,
I watched BNN last night and the visiting guru was John O'Connell.
He did not seem to like Gluskin-Sheff very much, but I did not follow his reasoning. I wonder if you could comment on that? My wife also commented that he seems anti-Canadian. Thx in advance.

Q: I saw your answer re nat gas to look at buying cr,pey, ppy. What service companies would you look at re nat gas.
Q: I would like your opinion of Falco Resources (FCP). With the large land package in an old gold mining district (Rouyn-Noranda) and using modern exploration techniques I would think they have a good chance of success. More specifically your opinion on their management team.
Thanks
Thanks

Q: I am looking for a financial stock to augment BNS, AD, TCN and a mix contained within 3 dividend-distribution mutual funds(RBC Cdn Equity Income, Sentry Cdn Income, Sentry REIT).
I am a retired, income-oriented investor who likes to hold for the long term and get regular dividend increases and some capital gains. I also hold ZLB, AQN, ALA, BCE, WEQ, BTE, CPG, SGY, along with an insured annuity and I receive a pension.
Within the banks, I have narrowed it down to RY or TD. Excluding the banks, I am considering SLF, MFC and PWF. I know you recommend SLF, yet the bulk of the analysts lean towards MFC, even though they cut their dividend in the latest crisis. The insurers seem to have more total return upside than the banks.
Question #1: Given my current portfolio mix, which financial stock would you recommend? Is there another stock for me to consider that I have not mentioned?
Question # 2: While I am not a market timer, would I be better to keep my cash on the sidelines for a few more weeks for a better entry point. I know I can always start with partial positions.
Thanks for your help,
Steve

Q: I'm thinking of increasing the residential portion of my REITS. What do you think of Canadian Apartment Properties CAR.UN relative to its peers?
Q: Hello 5i Team,
I would like to get an update on Methanex (MX). It has risen significantly over the past few months, despite some maintenance issues at some of their plants. In previous commentary, you have mentioned this stock as "cheap". Is it still cheap and would you consider this a good place to buy?

Q: Hello 5i team,
In the energy producing sector of my portfolio I hold CPG (light oil), BTE (heavy oil), TOU (gas) and VET (oil & gas). I'm not too happy with CPG for their endless acquisitions by raising more equity; would WCP be a worthwhile switch?
Thanks,
Tony
