Q: Today the Swiss Franc was decoupled from the EURO and it is widely expected that effectively QE will be brought into the Euro zone to stimulate growth. I would have expected that to be a positive for the markets yet they didn't respond that way. The USD continues to trend higher while almost every other currency is going lower, US Treasury yields going lower, worries of deflation in Europe, most commodities continue to tank, gold is trending higher and the VIX is moving past 20. What do you make of all this? The hair on the back of my neck is starting to stand up.

As always, thanks for your wonderful service.

Q: Hi Peter,

In your view, what would a Big stimulus package (QE Europe) mean for North American Markets. But mostly our Canadian Market (Toronto Stock Exchange). Would it help the TSE get back on solid footing again?..

Appreciate your opinion
Charlie

Q: Hello Team, I am considering purchasing either bep.un or cpx. Can I get your reasoning for giving CPX a B rating, but gave BEP.un an A rating. The numbers would indicate cpx deserves a higher rating.BEP has the following numbers: Debt/equity:2.7, P/E:81, P/B:1.4,EPS:0.42, 3 yr EPS growth is neg and has a 4.5% div yield.
CPX has the following numbers: Debt/equity:0.6, P/E:32, P/B:1.1, EPS: .82, 5 yr eps growth is positive and has a 5% div yield. Granted CPX has less power generation and a little diversified geographically but it would seem very comparable. Can I get your thoughts on this and what else gives Bep.un the edge? If you were to purchase one over the other which would it be and why? Can you confirm that both payout in dividends and not return of capital. Thank you

Q: Gold seems to be getting a bit of support even with the strong USD which is encouraging compared to other commodities. With a low CAD$ and cheaper oil CDN producers should have an advantage and be able to increase cashflow. I have G but am looking at other low cash cost producers with mines in Canada. What are your thoughts on Detour, Richmont, and New Gold? Any other suggestions?

Q: Hello Peter & Co,
I'm another year less young (71) and thinking of moving 15-20% of my RRIF portfolio into fixed income vehicles; I could reduce each holding on a pro-rata basis (which is easy to do) or I could exit 10 positions (which is much harder to do).
Which of the following would you select to exit?
Consumer discretionary 5.2% of portfolio: LNR,MG
Energy 6.9%: HWO,TOU,VET,WCP
Financials 8.1%: BNS,EFN,HCG,TD
Health/Pharma 12.6%: CCT,CPH,CXR,GUD,RX,XHC
Industrials/Transport 8.5%: CCL,CHE.UN,CNR,SJ
Infrastructure 4.6%: BIP.UN,STN
Materials 4.0%: IFP,WEF
Pipelines/Midstream 11.5%: ENB,IPL,KEY,PPL
Retail 5.3%: ATD,DOL
Services 7.4%: BYD.UN,FSV,CGX
Technology 16.9%: CSU,DSG,ESL,GIB,MDA,OTC
Util/Telco/RE 9.0%: ALA,BCE,BEP.UN,TCN
I greatly appreciate your input
Tony

Q: 5I must be at the Canteck Conference today, as I have been enjoying their tweets.
Amaya provided positive update on developments, and I am getting close to pulling the trigger here. Price to earnings here is in excess of 56 times and wonder if this is appropriate.
Your thoughts please going forward
