Q: Member's question on rates. I use Peoples Trust daily interest savings account for the short term. The rate has been at 1.8% for many months. I also use their DI savings TFSA at 3%, again, in effect for a over a year.
They have had a special 2.45% rate on a one year GIC for a few weeks.

Q: The CEO has direct ownership of 5,260 common shares; 682,368 options and 54,750 performance units. In addition he also has an indirect ownership of 71,825 common shares.
What does indirect ownership mean? I have heard a high quantity of options relative to common shares is not good. Could you enlighten me on this. Thank you.

Q: Hi Peter and the team,
I acquired stn in middle of 2013 which did well in that year, then it stayed flat in 2014. Recently, it goes in opposite way from TSX like today for example. Anything wrong with this name? Should I sell it and move on to other name? Do their projects involve with energy related business? Their debt level is about 22.5% to their capital (based on data posted by TD water house), which is low comparing with their peers such as SNC. What is your view of this company this year?

Q: Good morning Peter and the 5i Team,
Just a suggestion to Peter who recently asked a question about parking some cash for 6 months plus. He quoted an interest rate of 1.25% for "a high interest (LOL) investment account". Oaken Financial (a division of Home Capital (HCG) which is in 5i's Model Portfolio is offering 1.75% on their savings account. I have found dealing with Oaken to be very pleasant and they are certainly efficient.

Q: My Investment Adviser has recommended an investment in this IPO. Would you agree that this is a good opportunity in view of the Fairfax track record, and the expanding economy of India? Thank You
Q: I own zero oil and gas companies. What would be your top 2 picks for aggressive growth once oil stabilizes.I understand that oil could still go to 30.would also like a dividend. Maybe mart and surge. Dave
Q: I have 10K in my TFSA that I wish to use to invest in two companies which have the prospect of future dividend growth & long term price growth. With that in mind, the financial companies that I am think of are BNS, BMO, TD, CM, RY, SLF, & POW. Which two would you recommend, or is there a company that you would add to my list as a recommendation. Thanks. ... Cal

Q: Hi team:
the XRE has broke through the 50 days and I believed the 200 days MA
I am aware that an increase in interest rate could have negative impact on the Reits
Is there any fundamental reasons to support the technical trend ?
thanks for educating us!

Q: I am thinking about buying an ETF on the American banks , should I buy hedged or not?
Q: I think my question is a first. I would like to know the names (ticker symbols will suffice) of those gold and silver companies that provide a royalty stream. I thought I might find the answer in the "View by Category" section. I was astounded by how many questions you answer on the gold/silver sector. I'm thinking SSO, Silver Standard; and OR,Osisko would be good picks What would your top 2 choices be? I prefer growth as important as the dividend.
Q: My question is general in nature though uses phm as an example. PHM recently announced two LOI. The purchase price will be cash and PHM shares (in one case some 7 million shares). My question is, when a company purchases another in this way, where do the shares come from? Also, would this type of purchase tend to put a lid on price appreciation as the purchase shares hit the market? Thanks as always and best for the new year.
Q: If you were to pick only one, which one for a 2 year time frame?
